Yesterday I had the pleasure of delivering the keynote address at the Buckeye Frame Building Association Expo and Annual Meeting. I want to thank them for inviting me, for their hospitality, and for all of the conversation and kindness. This is a class act organization!💯

Getting to do something like this has been a dream of mine for a long time.

Yes, I've spoken to groups before at jobs, at church, and at associations that I belong to, but never before have I been the paid featured speaker at an event.

I'm not posting about this to brag. Far from it.👈

I'm posting to share something personal,
to express gratitude,
and more than anything else to encourage you💯

I know everyone who reads this has a dream and I'm telling you fulfilling those dreams is possible.

If you're reading this, you may know that I post more than most and everyone doesn't look upon that favorably. A former colleague and boss once asked me, "What do you think you are, a motivational speaker?"

Today, I can answer, "Yes, by the grace of God, I am a motivational speaker!"

We all have naysayers in our lives who don't understand us and attempt to take away our dreams, goals, and desires.

Keep pressing forward! 🔥

I have said it many times because it is an important lesson I remind myself of daily.

👉Your Expectations Are Only For You👈
👉Do Not Place Them On Others👈

I have spent years reminding myself of this truth.

I was talking to my son yesterday.

We talked about getting back into work mode after the holidays.

I told him how email had been VERY quiet yesterday.

He reminded me that it was the day after a holiday, and most people don't dive back in ready for immediate engagement or conversation.

I had to think about what he said, and it reminded me of what I wrote about Expectations in my book, Proverbs For Leadership.

Sometimes, even authors need to be reminded of what they wrote and know to be the truth🎯

At first, I was confused when a client told me I was the most tenacious salesperson she had ever met.

I didn't know what tenacious meant.

Once I understood the definition, I was again unsure if what she had said was a compliment.

Eventually, I discovered that being tenacious is a very good thing when I'm self-aware of how I'm coming off.

What is the point of this post?

Being tenacious is important, but being self-aware is mandatory!

My wife and I have the pleasure of leading the Greeter's Ministry at Evangel World Prayer Center.

On Sunday mornings our team will be the first people anyone walking through the door see.

Notice I did not say perfection or low price. Prospects know you're not perfect & the mature ones understand low price means more work for stakeholders.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 & 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

A fool is someone who does not allow anyone to speak into their life.

A fool is ALSO someone who allows EVERYONE to speak into their life.

What is my point?

Everyone has an agenda and that is not a bad thing.

But be forewarned, everyone's agenda is not for your good.
Some people's agenda is completely focused on themself.

Call my cynical if you must.
I am not.
I have just learned this lesson over time.

How did I learn this lesson?

By being on both sides of the equation at different times.


Beware of people's agendas as you learn to trust them.
It can be a slippery slope to frustration.

Lack of results. Here's how I overcame it with Thinking and Preparation.👈

I know I have been quiet on social media for about the last week.

Yes, I have been busy, but that is not the reason I have been quiet.

I have been Thinking and Preparing. 🤔

I have been Thinking about the last ten years.

During that time I have had two major health events and switched jobs twice.

For me, switching jobs was more mentally more significant than the health events.

For my family, the health events were much more significant. 🧑‍⚕️

I am blessed to be alive, let alone employed at a company where I enjoy what I do
and allows me the freedom to pursue outside interests.

Yes, I have been more reflective as of late, and I know why.

I am Preparing for some shifts in life, unexpected shifts.

What I do expect is that all the wisdom, understanding and knowledge I have gained over the years will be a firm foundation for shifts.

But without Preparation, the wisdom, understanding, and knowledge gained is worthless.

So there you have it. That is why I have been quiet on social media lately.

It is important to make the hard decisions. And when I say the hard decisions I mean things that you don't necessarily want to face but eventually will confront you if you do not confront them. Be strong, be diligent, and know there is nothing that you cannot overcome with a Faith foundation in the Lord!

𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚

I once knew a man who said he never wanted to grow up.

For those wondering, that man was NOT me. 😂

He talked about Peter Pan, and that was the way to live.

Sadly, that man experienced ruin in his life and no longer leads his family.

I am reminded of this insightful bible verse

when I think about what happened 👇

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child,

I understood as a child, and I thought as a child.

But when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

1 Corinthians 13:11 MEV

This sums up many of the challenges we bring ourselves. How we choose to act and behave as we age says a great deal about how we view ourselves and our place in the world.

Everyone has done some stupid things because of how they viewed themselves. I know this because I have done them myself.

I have said the wrong things, hung out with the wrong people and took the wrong advice–all in the name of not being judgmental of others. The truth is we must judge others by their discretion and transparency in how they lead their lives. If I had exercised a greater value of self, I would have had greater discretion and transparency.

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬.

I firmly believe that maturity is not about age or position in life. Maturity is about self-worth and a willingness to grow.

If your self-worth is low or you are unwilling to grow, you will continue to live an undisciplined (anti-discretion) life and a hidden (anti-transparency) life.

That which you should not share, you will, and that which you should avoid, you will embrace. I should know; I have done just that in the past.
