We had the honor of capturing SEIU President April Verrett at the “Fight the Oligarchy” rally in Los Angeles this past Saturday. Standing alongside Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and other progressive leaders, President Verrett delivered a powerful message on the ongoing struggle for economic and racial justice.

In her speech, she reflected on her recent visit to Selma, Alabama, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, and emphasized that “we’re still fighting that fight. Different tactics, same old oppression.” She called for unity and action, stating, “We can’t just protest, we gotta disrupt. We are stronger than their greed.”

The rally drew a record-breaking crowd of over 36,000 attendees, all united in the call for justice and equity.

Having worked alongside Laphonza for well over a decade, I’ve had the honor of witnessing not just her incredible leadership, but the kindness, wisdom, and authenticity she brings to every space she enters. She’s been a steadfast partner in the work, a source of inspiration, and a friend I deeply respect.
