Listen……a lot of heartbreaks might be avoided if folks were honest with themselves about any residual, unresolved emotions/attachments to an ex.

Sometimes we use new intimate partners as salve to sooth the wounds of old partners.

Sometimes we overlap relationships because we aren’t brave enough to release the old partner completely in order to discover what the new interest has in store.

Either way……a lot of heartbreaks could be avoided if we just handled people’s hearts with care & tenderness & empathy.

The Golden Rule is not that fu***ng hard.

This is such a powerful quote because it so accurately describes how partners change and evolve into new versions of themselves over time.

In a perfect world, every new version of our partner (and ourselves) is going to be better than the previous one.

But the reality is that we don’t always grow together and the new version may not be as palatable as the previous one.

If and when this happens, we have to allow ourselves time/space to mourn the previous version and then make a conscious choice about fully embracing (not just tolerating) who are partner is in THIS moment (not who they were 2 versions ago).

Maybe the new version is temporary, maybe it isn’t. Either way, it’s ok to miss the old version……as long as we understand that the old version has expired.
