It is good to be back in Washington DC ! This time for the Annual Fundraising Gala of the German American Heritage German-American Heritage Foundation and Museum honoring Samantha Brown as Distinguished German American of the Year tonight! Supported by AmaWaterways and Lufthansa. Yesterday I had the pleasure already to meet Samantha in person at the German American Heritage Museum, my workplace 10 years ago! Good memories! New memories to be made!

Come to the National Mall in DC this Thursday, June 6 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM to enjoy a musical performance by an ensemble from the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" to commemorate the 80th anniversary of this decisive World War II operation.

Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of D-Day! Heartfelt thanks to America and all Allied Forces who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944 to free Europe from the yoke of the Hi**er Regime, thus eventually paving the way for the development of a democratic system in Germany. Without the courage of the brave soldiers 80 years ago and the sacrifice of their families, we would not have been able to enjoy peace in Germany and in most countries of Europe from 1945 until now. Congratulations, German-American Heritage Foundation and Museum , for bringing this wonderful and informative exhibit to the U.S. in cooperation with the Allied Museum in Berlin and the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation. The exhibit will be on display at the GAHM in Washington DC until September 30, 2024 - commemorating the day 75 years ago when the last plane of the Berlin Airlift left Tempelhof Airport, returning to the base in Frankfurt, and the Berlin Airlift ended after saving the lives of the Berliners and the city of Berlin from getting solely under Soviet control. This is one of the greatest humanitarian rescue efforts of recent history. A time when former enemies became friends ... Sadly, our first post in 2024 is not about Happy New Year's Greeting but instead about the sudden death of the beloved German actor Christian Oliver and his two daughters who were killed in a plane crash near St. Vincent on Jan 4. We are deeply, deeply saddened by this devastating news and our hearts go out to Christian's wife Jessica, all family members and friends. We had the pleasure of meeting Christian and his beautiful family on many occasions in Los Angeles. We will never forget his wonderful personality, humor and charismatic smile. May Christian Oliver rest in peace. We will never forget him.
