The Lawson’s Motor Wheel of 1902 was a marvel of early motorized innovation, showcasing an era when inventors sought to merge the convenience of bicycles with the capabilities of motor vehicles. This contraption featured a single, large wheel powered by a small engine, attached to a frame that balanced two riders side by side. Its open design exposed passengers to the crisp air, making it an exhilarating yet delicate experience. The thrum of the engine was modest compared to modern machines, giving riders a novel sense of movement propelled not by pedal but by the pioneering spirit of internal combustion.
In this vision, two young ladies set out on a ride, the morning sun glinting off the polished metal of the Motor Wheel. The driver, wearing a wide-brimmed hat tied securely under her chin with a ribbon, steers confidently, hands gloved and eyes focused on the path ahead. Her companion, with an expression of gleeful anticipation, clings lightly to the side, hair fluttering as the breeze catches it. Dressed in Edwardian skirts adapted for mobility, they present a blend of grace and boldness, embodying the independence of a new age where women began to explore freedom on the open road.
As they glide along cobblestone streets and occasional stretches of countryside paths, curious onlookers pause, their eyes widening at the sight of this motorized oddity. Children point and giggle, and adults exchange bemused glances, unsure whether to marvel or be skeptical. The distinctive puttering sound of the engine, a sharp yet rhythmic purr, blends with the crunch of gravel and the hum of conversation. For the two riders, every turn of the wheel represents a triumph over tradition, a journey not just of miles but of a changing society where boundaries of technology and gender roles are beginning to blur.

Gary Cooper 🤠 was born in the West when it was still the West of Hollywood lore. He talked and walked like a westerner 🏇 and began as a stunt rider in 1920’s westerns. He went on to bit parts and worked his way up to being one of Hollywood’s greatest stars. He starred in many westerns, including the most famous one of all, for which he won an Oscar 🎥. He was considered the most natural horseman in Hollywood 🐴, who didn’t tame a horse by breaking him but by riding him until the horse got used to him and he could feel at one with the horse. You can’t get more western than that.
In the 1930s, a young girl striking a pose with a Komodo Dragon at the London Zoo must have been quite a sight! 🐉 Komodo dragons are the largest lizards on Earth and are armed with a venomous bite. They rely on their keen sense of smell 🌬️ and use their forked tongues to sample the air for prey.
These formidable predators have a diverse diet, ranging from small rodents and insects 🐭🦗 to larger animals like deer and water buffalo 🦌🐃. As tertiary predators, they play a crucial role at the top of their food chain and are known to exhibit cannibalistic behavior as well.
