DiN has been celebrating its 25th anniversary during 2024, which is no mean feat for a small, niche, independent label. The double CD album ’25 Years of DiN’ (DiN86) was released on 19th July to much critical acclaim and featured new tracks from the majority of artists on the core DiN label. This legacy of a quarter of a century of releases has built up an impressive back catalogue of music and it is always great to hear how other artists respond to this. Back in August we had Chuck van Zyl, host of the Star’s End radio show in Philadelphia, who curated his own DiN MiX on air and as we close out the year it’s lovely to have another interpretation of this idiom from our good friend Maggie Houtz (aka DJ Maggie).

DJ Maggie carefully curates the best of downtempo electronica into lush, playful and deeply replenishing sets that invite listeners on shimmering audio odysseys. Evolving her own brand of intuitive sound at the legendary Southern California desert gatherings of the groundbreaking Moontribe Collective, Maggie has played for a wide range of events, from festivals like Ozora and Astronox, to intimate yoga retreats and desert campouts. In 2021, she launched her own imprint, Over the Moon Music, to further cement her role as an avid advocate for the downbeat, and has released music from notable luminaries such as Bluetech, Kaya Project, Erothyme, Encounters, and Wolf Tech.

Welcome back to Moon Maker Stories, where we highlight the artists who make Over the Moon releases shine. Today's spotlight falls on Random Rab, whose contribution to Bluetech's 'Limonchik' adds another dimension to this evolving release.

Random Rab and Bluetech share a bond forged through decades of parallel paths, mutual respect, and countless miles of shared touring. Both artists stand as pioneers in downtempo electronic culture, each helping shape the genre's evolution over the past 20+ years. When Rab expressed interest in remixing a piece from Evan's forthcoming album 'Spacehop Chronicles 2', the choice was clear. His take on 'Limonchik' embodies the essence of his musical signature - bright, infectious rhythms and uplifting melodies that have charmed audiences throughout his career.

Random Rab kicks off the new year with the Metamorphology NYE Run, bringing his signature sound to the Pacific Northwest from December 27-31, with shows in Seattle, Bellingham, Tacoma, and Portland. The winter tour continues in Steamboat Springs at Old Town Pub, where he headlines January 25 with support from Lapa, following DOS's headline set the previous night. February brings performances with New Thousand at Santa Fe's Meow Wolf on the 15th and Durango's Animas City Theater on the 16th.

Random Rab’s biography:

Random Rab is a Colorado-based artist that has been pushing the boundaries of electronic music for over two decades, captivating audiences around the world with his unique soundscapes and live performances.

In the late 90s, Rab moved to San Francisco and became heavily involved in the thriving underground music scene. He began experimenting with cutting edge sounds and techniques, incorporating live instruments and vocals into his productions. This fusion of organic and electronic elements became a hallmark of Rab’s sound.

In 2001, Rab released his debut solo album, Epicycle, which garnered critical acclaim and established him as a rising star in the electronic music world. He went on to release over a dozen more albums, including Visurreal, Release, Arose, Awoke, Anew, The Elucidation of Sorrow, Formless Edge and most recently, On Magnificence. He has also been featured in films and special projects for National Geographic, Adobe, Google, Red Bull, Teton Gravity Research, Obscura Digital and other international clients.

Rab’s live performances are an immersive experience, combining intricate visuals, custom analogue lighting effects and hypnotic beats to create a truly transformative and uplifiting atmosphere. He has performed at festivals around the world, including Burning Man, Lightning in a Bottle, Shambhala, Boom, Ozora, and of course 10 years of performing for sunrise at Envision Festival in Costa Ricav where he has become a fan favorite. Moon Maker Stories returns to share another perspective from the talented artists who bring Over the Moon releases to life. Today's story features Encounters, whose artistry adds a distinctive voice to Bluetech's 'Limonchik'.

Including Tyler Encounters in the remix roster for 'Limonchik' was an immediate choice for Evan and OTM founder DJ Maggie. His signature style, which first emerged on OTM, resonates perfectly with the emotional depth and intricate patterns of Bluetech's work. Their artistic exchange began with Evan's remix of 'Odds Are' from Tyler's debut 'A Path Beyond' - a track that instantly captured hearts. Now, Tyler's interpretation of 'Limonchik' adds soaring melodic passages that feel like natural extensions of the original sonic landscape.

Since his arrival in the electronic music scene, Tyler has proven himself a remarkable talent, fostering connections across the genre spectrum. His impressive catalog of collaborations spans from meditative journeys with downtempo innovators like Kaya Project to high-energy explorations in the breakbeat realm, featured on Treavor Moontribe's Alien Breakdance label.

The path forward is bright for Tyler, with his second album set for early next year, a fresh collaboration with Bluetech in the works, and a promising live performance in Portland this December 6th, where he joins celebrated artists Desert Dwellers, Somatoast, and Erothyme. Encounters’ biography:

Encounters, from Bay Area based producer Tyler Hovestadt, is a downtempo electronic project blending ambient, downtempo, and live percussion that seeks to find balance between organic musicality and electronic exploration. In August 2022, Encounters released his debut album "A Path Beyond" followed by "A Path Beyond Remixed" in 2023, and “Circuit Breaks” in 2024. Encounters has since performed with notable artists in the downtempo scene such as Kaya Project, Younger Brother, Ott, Bluetech, Carbon Based Lifeforms and more.

Join us as we feature Entangled Mind, whose distinctive touch helps bring Bluetech's 'Limonchik' to life.

OTM founder DJ Maggie first connected with Marissa of Entangled Mind at Astronox Festival in Austin during Fall 2022, though their mutual appreciation had already taken root - Maggie through Entangled Mind's more nuanced downtempo pieces, and Marissa through Maggie's DJ mixes. This natural artistic kinship led to ongoing conversations about future collaborations, making Entangled Mind a perfect suggestion when Bluetech sought remixers for 'Limonchik'. The resulting remix stands out for its genre-defying approach and refined sound design, building rich sonic textures that flow seamlessly between halftime rhythms and drum 'n' bass.

Looking ahead, Entangled Mind's creative journey continues with a collaborative single dropping November 22nd on Gravitas Music, followed by a live set in Brooklyn on December 7th, sharing the stage with Cool Customer and Chmura. Follow their page for more info.

Moon Maker Stories continues our celebration of the artists who bring their creative vision to Over the Moon releases. Through these stories, we share the connections and musical paths that shape our label's sonic identity. Today we spotlight BISHØP, one of the remarkable talents behind Bluetech's 'Limonchik' and its remixes.

The vocals gracing Bluetech's latest single 'Limonchik' come from longtime collaborator Alyssa Palmer, who performs as Bishøp (and formerly as Miss Palmer). Their creative partnership began in Portland, Oregon in the mid-2000s, first blossoming with 'Kingdom of the Blind' on Evan's 2008 release Phoenix Rising. In that piece, Alyssa's ethereal voice brought an intimate dimension to the track's infectious melody. Their enduring friendship has grown alongside their individual artistic evolution, making this reunion on 'Limonchik' feel like a natural return to their shared musical roots.

Currently, Alyssa balances her creative pursuits with the joyful demands of raising four boys, bringing the same dedication to motherhood that fans have long appreciated in her musical work. Though she's taking a thoughtful pause from touring, new collaborations with Bluetech are already taking shape in the studio. These upcoming tracks promise to add fresh chapters to their longtime artistic dialogue, giving fans something special to anticipate. Her distinctive voice and artistic sensibility remain as compelling as ever, ready to grace new musical ventures when the time is right.

Bishøp’s biography:

Bishøp, also known by her former stage names Miss Palmer and Alyssa Palmer, has been a driving force in the dance music scene since 2007. As a vocalist, songwriter, producer, and DJ, she has had the honor of collaborating with industry giants such as Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Hatiras, Good Times Ahead, Chocolate Puma, Zonderling, Latroit, Duke and Jones, Filous, Bluetech and others.

Now based in Portland, Oregon, Bishøp’s creative vision is centered on making music that transcends genres and trends. She believes in the power of music to connect people and prides herself on building meaningful relationships wherever she goes, both in and out of the studio. It has been a profound privilege for Over the Moon to release each single from Bluetech's upcoming album 'Spacehop Chronicles 2', including the latest gem 'Limonchik'. Evan and I have walked a remarkable path together for nearly two decades of friendship - organizing events, co-producing weekly live stream shows, and creating countless memories behind the decks. His music has been a constant presence in my sets through the years, and his wisdom was essential in bringing OTM to life in 2021. Selecting remix artists for each single has been pure delight, showcasing the musical aesthetic we both cherish. Each release features Evan's original artwork depicting Laika, imagining the canine cosmonaut's continued adventures through the cosmos - a visual story that runs parallel to the album's musical narrative.

Bluetech has a variety of current and upcoming projects and performances which include a forthcoming modular synth-based album for the venerable label DiN Records, an ongoing collaboration with vocalist Rafe Pearlman, and a stacked schedule of dance music DJ gigs in the Seattle area, which has yielded many sets archived on his Soundcloud.

Musical Journey
Bluetech first broke onto the scene with his 2003 debut album “Prima Materia,” establishing his reputation in the ambient music scene. A key highlight of this work, under the alias Evan Marc, is his collaboration with legendary guitarist and electronic music pioneer Steve Hillage (from the band System 7, Gong, The Orb). Their collaborative album, Dreamtime Submersible, blends Hillage’s signature guitar work and electronic expertise with Evan’s intricate sound design and dancefloor sensibilities. The album is known for its immersive, driving rhythms and lush sonic landscapes, and stands as a unique melding of two visionary approaches to electronic music.
In 2021 he collaborated with Steve Moore (Zombi, Kompakt, Spectrum Spools) to create the album Liminal Migration, a warm analogue deep dive into proto techno and synth heavy house. He has released dance music on labels such as Get Physical, Proton/Apollo, Thoughtless Music, Iboga and Uniting Souls, and been charted by luminaries such as Carl Cox, Mixmaster Morris and Laurent Garnier.
Invisible Allies
He has also created the project Invisible Allies, a partnership with producer KiloWatts (Dirtybird, Harmonious Discord). Their work reflects a joint fascination with analog synthesis and modular systems, allowing them to push the boundaries of modern electronic music and disgard established rules for genre conventions and traditional approached to production and arrangement.

As a DJ and live performer, Bluetech is known for curating eclectic, genre-fluid sets that focus on the art of storytelling. His performances range from ambient journeys to driving, dance-oriented experiences. He has graced stages at premier music festivals such as Symbiosis, Lucidity, Lightning in a Bottle, Boom, Rainbow Serpent and Ozora, adapting his sound to suit the energy of each event.
