Got $5.5 million to spend on your new dream home?? The Los Feliz Murder Mansion is BACK on the market! Take a look at the listing online, where images of the proposed plans have been posted. This home was going to be absolutely spectacular! But the current owners may have gotten in over their heads, or maybe it was too difficult to get permits from the city? Either way, the fact that this property is back on the market, and yet again not lived in, is evidence that this place may indeed be cursed after all. What do you think??

The holidays are upon us, and while there’s no photograph of the Christmas tree that legend had it was in the living room of The Los Feliz Murder Mansion, we do have this photo of a young owner of the property, Rudy Enriquez, in front of his family Christmas tree circa 1940.

This is how I spent roughly 9 months of my 2020, during Covid lock down. After working all day editing an HGTV show, then spending a few hours with my one year old, I’d be here on the couch, writing my 250 page script for the podcast. Then it was recording in the closet, and back to the couch for editing! Oh and some pets got in the mix there too. What a wild ride!

The peacock wallpaper mural, handmade by K.M. Patton sometime in the 1930’s, in all its glory. Notice how it takes up the entirety of the wall, with even some branches off to the left of the doorway.

And an interesting tidbit about this mural: it’s not of a peacock at all, but in fact a pheasant. Now it’s unmistakable to me, and I can’t believe I missed it before. But this info came to me from lovely listener and it was an eye opener for me. You can really tell by looking at the tail feathers. Pheasants in cherry trees were a common subject of Chinoiserie art back when this mural would have been commissioned in the 1930’s.

Boxes of records, boxes of shoes, a bird cage. Just some of the items seen on the second floor landing outside the bedroom doors of the Los Feliz Murder Mansion during the era of Rudy Enriquez’s ownership. The doorway at the back of the photo goes to the master bedroom, the one on the left leading to Judy’s.

On July 26th, 1932 Hazel Devlin got married without her family’s permission, and this move would end up costing her the estate of her adopted parents, The Schumachers, builders of The Los Feliz Murder Mansion. Hazel’s story is a sad one, and certainly not the kind of tale we thought we would uncover in court records during our investigation. Listen to Episode 4 to hear more of Hazel’s story.

In Episode 4 of our podcast series we heard about all the residents who lived and died in The Los Feliz Murder Mansion. Donald Beaton was just 3 months shy of his 21st birthday when he passed away at 2475 Glendower Place of a fungal infection. But don’t be fooled by this LA Times article, because court and death records confirm that the address printed here is in fact a typo. “2457 Glendower Place” does not exist and young Donald indeed died at the notorious murder house in 1931. Such a sad end for someone so young.

Here’s the ball peen hammer seen by a real estate agent at the broker’s open that was detailed in Episode 5 of our podcast series. 1959 Perelson murder weapon? Not likely. But an exciting moment for anyone who might think that, that’s for sure!

Here’s a look into how we shot our documentary interviews. We used a two-camera, two-teleprompter technique, made popular by documentary filmmaker Errol Morris, called the Interrotron. The interview subject looks right down the camera lens, but they don’t actually see the lens at all, they only see Stacy’s face as she conducts her interview. This unique effect makes for very intimate interviews, where camera disappears, and only a mere conversation is being had between subject and interviewer.

Mad props to our cinematographer Chloe Weaver Bennett for implementing and perfecting this technique on all our shoots. Our interviews are something absolutely next level thanks to her expertise.

The vanity under the stairs! In Episode 6 of our series we heard about an area under the famous staircase that had been missed by many. A door under the stairs led to a small area with a vanity and some storage, an odd little space that was obscured by boxes and belongings before it was finally cleared out.

Some great shots by in the living room of The Los Feliz Murder Mansion. Does that look like some kind of record player in that first image? And those yellow chairs are basically iconic. My guess is that Lillian Perelson purchased them herself in 1956, and they never moved one inch until 2016 when the house was finished cleared out and sold.
