What a fascinating discussion I had this week on 60 Mindful Minutes with Mary-Frances O’Connor about her new book, The Grieving Brain: The Surprising Science of How We Learn from Love and Loss.

I learned so much about how the brain remaps after we lose someone we love. And how the process takes an incredible amount of time, compassion and care.

I LOVED speaking with entrepreneur, speaker, and author Nataly Kogan about her brand new book, The Awesome Human Project: Break Free from Daily Burnout, Struggle Less, and Thrive More in Work and Life.

Here's what Nataly believes: challenges in life are constant, but struggle is optional.

We can learn to move through life with more ease. We just need the right tools.

So much of the experience of our lives stems from the narrative we create about what's happening to and around us. But we don't really think a lot about the power of our storytelling, do we? This week I interview Dr. Annie Brewster about her new book, The Healing Power of Storytelling: Using Personal Narrative to Navigate Illness, Trauma, and Loss.

Listen wherever you love to stream podcasts or check it out here: https://kristenmanieri.com/episode166/

When Harvard-trained physician Dr. Annie Brewster was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001, she realized firsthand that the medical system was failing her in one critical way: she didn’t feel seen or heard. Her doctors weren’t listening.

Have you ever thought about breaking up with a friend?

You're not alone. So many people are using this unprecedented time in history to take stock of their lives and their relationships .

In this episode of 60 Mindful Minutes, I interview Erin Falconer, author of the new book, How to Break Up with Your Friends: Finding Meaning, Connection, and Boundaries in Modern Friendships. Erin invites us to examine the friendships in our lives, not only to see which friendships may not be serving us but to also see ways to deeply commit to those that do.

Episode 159 is live! What a perfect episode to listen to as we start to think about what we want for ourselves in the year ahead. Imagine creating a hustle-free year, a year with more space, flow and permission to rest.

Listen to my conversation with author Matthew Turner about escaping the hustle wherever you love to stream podcasts or check it out here: https://kristenmanieri.com/episode159/

Hustle culture, this idea that we ought to make working, striving and achieving the centerpiece of our lives, might have deep roots these days but so too does the anti-hustle movement, which serves to value balance and rest as part of accomplishment.

What if the thing that gets in the way of us having what we say we want isn't motivation or self-discipline or commitment, but old mental patterns?

That's the concept I dive into this week on 60 Mindful Minutes with guest, Adele Spraggon, author of SHIFT: 4 Steps to Personal Empowerment.

Listen wherever you love to stream podcasts or check it out here: https://kristenmanieri.com/episode157/

When it comes to creating the lives we want, we’re often told that we need to focus on things like commitment, willpower, positive thinking or goal-setting. But Adele Spraggon, author of the book, SHIFT: 4 Steps to Personal Empowerment, thinks there’s actually somewhere else we should be paying ...

Of course, we all know it would be good for us to spend more time to outside. But it’s not until we actually begin to reorient our lives so that being outside just becomes part of everyday living that we realize it’s where we’re supposed to be… like maybe all the time.

There’s a saying that "a rising tide lifts all boats."

Having spent the last decade participating in, creating and facilitating thrive tribes, I can attest to the immeasurable power of gathering with likeminded fellow life travelers for the purpose of growing and evolving.

I'm inviting you to a FREE workshop on Wednesday, November 24th. During this on-demand session, you'll learn:

- What a thrive tribe is and why we each need one;
How they differ from families, friend groups, and work colleagues;
- How to create a thrive tribe (best practices, and logistics);
- Ways having a thrive tribe help us to clarify what matters and to stay committed to it.

I’ll also be sharing details of the Thrive Program I’m launching this month, which will begin gathering January 5, 2022.

HOW TO JOIN

This workshop is on-demand, which means once you register, you'll get a link on November 24 to listen in. You don't have to be anywhere at a set time. You can listen to the workshop any time that's convenient for you.

For details and registration, visit kristenmanieri.com/2021/11/10/thrive-tribe.

We've all been through an incredible season of turbulence and transition over the past 18 months.

What now?

Are you ready to embark on a new chapter? Are you feeling stuck, uninspired, bored or frustrated? Having trouble deciding which direction to go in? Does it feel like it’s time to shake things up a bit? Are you needing more time to incubate?

These are just a few of the questions we'll explore during next week's FREE workshop: Deciding What's Next.

When: Wednesday, November 3rd at 12:30pm EST

Where: Zoom (live and interactive) or via an on-demand recording sent a few days after the live workshop

If it inspires you to think about what may be next for you, I look forward to seeing you next week.

Details and registration at https://kristenmanieri.com/2021/10/27/wednesday-workshop-november-3/

This week we're going to focus in on the change we create for our lives, and the transitions and new beginnings we deliberately usher in. We'll look at how we discover and clarify what's next for us, how to navigate this process mindfully, and how we start to put the wheels in motion.

We are each born with a sense of agency and the ability to rise up and become a force for good. But unless we’re effectively resourced, in part through self-care, we limit what we have to give to the world.

Join me for a FREE lunchtime workshop on Wednesday, October 27 at 12:30pm EST.

What are you saying “yes” to that perhaps you’re actually a “no” to? In what areas of your life do you seem to compromise more than others? When you look at the pie chart of your life, how big is the slice that’s just for you and your needs?

When we sacrifice our needs or dishonor ourselves in pursuit of belonging, we aren't being true to ourselves or relating to ourselves like we really matter. And we DO matter. Let's dive into creating boundaries this week to look at how we could design a life that truly honors this truth: I matter.

Attend live or register to receive the recording.

What are you saying “yes” to that perhaps you’re actually a “no” to? In what areas of your life do you seem to compromise more than others? When you look at the pie chart of your life, how big is the slice that’s just for you and your needs? Does the way you’re treated in some of your key relationships really align for you? Where in your life have agreements been broken, altered or messily created?

When we’re not aware or conscious, we tend to default to the parts of ourselves that prioritize being accepted, liked and praised. It’s not just the so-called “people pleasers” who do this; we all do it, because belonging and connection are such universal drivers of all humans.

But when we sacrifice our needs or dishonor ourselves in pursuit of belonging, we aren’t being true to ourselves or relating to ourselves like we really matter. And we DO matter. Let’s dive into creating boundaries this week to look at how we could design a life that truly honors this truth: I matter.

Please bring a journal or piece of paper so you can do the work of exploring this topic and how it relates specifically to your life.

This live workshop takes place on Wednesday, October 27 at 12:30pm EST (9:30am PST).

NOTE: Only the host’s audio of this workshop will be shared (not video or participant interactions). All registrants will receive a follow-up email with a link to the audio recording.

We carry a lot. Sometimes it’s worry or regret. Maybe we have unfinished projects or unresolved conflict weighing us down. Maybe it's just clutter. Regardless, our thoughts take up space, especially when they seem to go unresolved, feel unsettled or cause us to ruminate for long periods of time without any productive action or resolution.

Join me for a FREE 60-minute, interactive workshop with an aim to identify what may be taking up (too much) space in your mind, burdening you unnecessarily and robbing you of energy and creativity that would be best served elsewhere. Get clarity, let some things go, decide on a way forward, and get intentional about liberating yourself from whatever is weighing you down.

Research has found that we often see sadness as a weakness and that many of us are, in a way, afraid to be sad. But Helen Russell, author of How to Be Sad: Everything I've Learned About Getting Happier by Being Sad, sees value in sadness.

Helen has researched sadness from the inside out for her entire life, discovering that the key to happiness is unhappiness. Turns out that when we allow ourselves to experience pain, we learn to truly appreciate and embrace joy.

What a treat it was interviewing Helen. I hope you enjoy her insights as much as I did.

When we embark on a spiritual path, one that aims to have us understand life, ourselves and each other at a deeper level, we may start to see that we have a deep intelligence that offers a bigger perspective and wisdom. That's the higher self, and it's a concept that's explored with depth in Donna Bond's book, Original Wisdom: Harness the Power of the Authentic You.

I had the opportunity to interview Donna about her book for this week's episode of 60 Mindful Minutes. It was a fascinating and inspiring conversation.

To author and coach Becky Hall, finding a space between the poles of scarcity and excess is the challenge of our age. For decades, her work has aimed to help us each explore our own version of enough so that we can find the balance and boundaries we all need for ourselves and for our world.

In her new book, The Art of Enough, she offers a practical guidebook designed to cultivate sufficiency and peace for healthy self-belief, work pace and sustainable living, so we can all move from striving to thriving.

I loved this interview with Becky on my 60 Mindful Minutes podcast. You can listen wherever you stream podcasts or you can check it out here: https://kristenmanieri.com/episode148/. ENJOY!

I’m so excited to be launching season five of my 60 Mindful Minutes podcast today. This season will feature more than 40 authors who write about what it means to live well.

*Season five kicks off today with Jeeyoon Kim.*

As a professional concert pianist, Jeeyoon Kim has built a career on the foundation of daily practice and unwavering persistence. Along the way, she’s learned how to transcend her feelings and whims in order to commit to her work. In her new book, Whenever You're Ready: How to Compose the Life of Your Dreams, Jeeyoon shares how success stems from disciplines, practices, and mindsets that we live out every day.
