How did you get interested in photography?
How I got interested in photography? Thanks for asking...
I took a photography class with Ms. Harris at Long Beach Poly High School in 1976. I took to photography as a hobby early with a Kodak instamatic 10. I enjoyed photography and my dad allowed me to use his 1951 Nikon M Sync viewfinder with a light meter he bought duty free in Japan coming home from the Korean War.

(Which my brother Danny has to this day)
I didn't know it at the time, but using that camera, which was 25 years old by the time I hit that class, provided me with a deep understanding of f-stop, shutter speed, film speed, lighting and framing a subject in the viewfinder.
Ms. Harris gave me a tip which I still use to this day 50 years hence. (If you would like to know this tip just LMK)
For the class we had to wind our own fill canisters, go out and shoot whatever the assignment was, come back, use the black bag or the dark room to unwind the canister onto the developing reel and then develop the negatives by hand tumbling the developer tank.
Dry the negatives, print a contact sheet and then work with the prints that you have.
We would burn, dodge using a Hasselblad enlarger. It was really fun. But obviously surfing was my number one subject so I started shooting Seal Beach South Side in the seventies and Huntington Beach on occasion Newport in the summertime and then on any surf trip we go I actually got a Minolta SRT201 for a pre grad in 1977 which I still have to this day, and no it is not for sale!
Anyhow, that's how I got my start on my photography as a Hobby. I wouldn't consider myself a professional by any means. There's so much I do not know but I do have appreciation for the Art and for framing a subject and choosing interesting subject matter.
One of the benefits of being the photographer on a surf trip is usually getting preferential treatment. The Problem was you could never get anybody out of the lineup to come and shoot while you surfed so I actually have very few photographs of myself surfing.
I must have a few Terabytes or a whole ‘snot load’ of shots of all my buddies and their friends:(...
Once digital came about the whole hobby came to a halt
