West Coast Legend MC Eiht dropped his classic solo debut album We Come Strapped on Epic Records on this day 30 years ago!

The recording sessions took place at X-Factor Studios in Long Beach, California.

The album was produced by Compton's Most Wanted members MC Eiht and DJ Slip, except for one song, "Compton Bomb", produced by Ric Roc.

It features contributions from William "Willie Z" Zimmerman on the keyboards, Josh Achziger on guitar, Carla Evans on vocals, and guest appearances from rappers Redman and Spice 1.

The album peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and at number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on September 29, 1994.

It has been MC Eiht's most successful album to date.

It spawned two singles and music videos for the songs "All for the Money" and "Geez Make the Hood Go Round".

Despite the CMW title on the album cover, We Come Strapped is considered to be MC Eiht's debut solo album.

In addition to MC Eiht, from CMW, the album features DJ Slip on keyboards and production, as well as DJ Mike T's scratches in one song only. However, MC Eiht mentions the fellow group members by name-dropping Boom Bam, Tha Chill, Lil Hawk & Bird, and Ni**az on tha Run throughout the album.

The rapper insults DJ Quik on the track "Def Wish III" due to their then-ongoing feud.

On this day 31 years ago Ice Cube dropped the classic single "Check Yo Self" featuring Das Efx as the 3rd single off his 3rd solo album The Predator.

With Dj Muggs & Ice Cube producing the original version and Ice Cube & Dj Pooh produced the The Message Remix

It topped both the US Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts while also reaching number 20 on the Hot 100 chart.

The song retains two main versions, the original and a remix which utilizes the same beat as Grandmaster Flash's "The Message", titled "Check Yo Self (The Message Remix)". The original mix includes a sample from the intro of the Beastie Boys' track "The New Style", which uses the phrase "check it" throughout the chorus.

It's certified Platinum

The influential iconic movie Boyz N the Hood came out in theaters on this day 33 years ago!!

Boyz n the Hood follows Tre Styles , who is sent to live with his father Furious Styles in South Central Los Angeles, surrounded by the neighborhood's booming gang culture, where he reunites with his childhood friends, Brothers Doughboy & Ricky

Boyz n the Hood was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival.

It premiered in Los Angeles on July 2, 1991, and was theatrically released in the United States ten days later. The film became a critical and commercial success, grossing $57.5 million in North America and earning nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at the 64th Academy Awards. Singleton became the youngest person and the first African American to be nominated for Best Director. In 2002, the United States Library of Congress deemed it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.

On this day 30 years ago: Above The Law release their critically acclaimed LP, "Uncle Sam's Curse", on Ruthless Records.

It was released in 1994, the group's final record on Ruthless Records.

The album peaked at number 15 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and 113 on the Billboard 200. Uncle Sam's Curse sold over 250,000 copies.

Production was handled by A.T.L.'s Cold 187um with co-producers KM.G and K-oss. The tracks "Return of the Real S**t" and "Black Superman" contain samples from the 1994 film Against the Wall.

This album would help shape the evolving “G-Funk” sound they had played a large role in pioneering on their previous projects.

TODAY IN HIPHOP: On this day in 1991, Main Source release their debut album, “Breaking Atoms.” The three man crew consisting of Toronto, Canada DJ’s K-Cut and Sir Scratch and legendary Queens, New York producer and MC Large Professor, broke new ground with their first album, which pushed Hip-Hop music production to new heights. Main Source themselves would produce this masterpiece which also spawned the classic hit songs, “Just Hangin’ Out” and “Looking At The Front Door” as well as the singles, “Peace Is Not The Word To Play.” “Breaking Atoms” is also noted for the first time the legendary Nas was ever heard on wax on the track “Live At The Barbecue.”
