This coming Monday 2/17/2025 through Friday 2/21/2025, the upcoming Londonderry High School seniors can pick up their packets during lunches that lay out the possible scholarships for which to apply. If any of you are parents of an upcoming graduate that you know has gone above and beyond in their efforts over the course of their LHS career to give back to their community in various ways, please encourage them to apply for the Morgynne Sevigny Memorial Scholarship Fund. We created this scholarship last year in honor of Morgynne who would have graduated in June of 2024. This scholarship aims to encourage students to be a force for good in their community.
Please click the link to learn more about the scholarship program and, if you feel inclined, feel free to donate to the fund to allow us to reward these students’ efforts for many years to come and to encourage more and more of this behavior. Thank you all!

Exit 4A Gateway District Stakeholders - Shape the Future of Derry’s Gateway District

We Need Your Input!

The Town of Derry’s Planning Board is reviewing potential zoning and land use changes in the Gateway District, the area where Folsom Road will meet the upcoming connection to Route 93’s Exit 4A. This is a significant opportunity to shape our town’s future, and we want to hear from you! We are hosting three public visioning sessions to gather input from stakeholders most impacted by these potential changes. Each session will focus on a specific area within the Gateway District, and is designed to gather input from residents and property owners in each area and beyond.

The feedback gathered from these visioning sessions will be incorporated into a proposed set of zoning and land use changes for the Gateway District, which will be reviewed with the community in the Spring of 2025 to solicit final comments ahead of voting measures.

Your feedback and participation in these sessions are critical to shaping a plan that reflects the needs and interests of our community. Don’t miss this opportunity to influence the future of Derry’s Gateway District!

Preparing for the Session:

This is an opportunity to think big about the future of this area. To prepare for the session, consider:

What do you like about the Gateway District as it currently stands? Are there any changes or improvements you would like to see?
Given the increased access provided by the new connection to Route 93, how might this area look in ten years?
What particular types of businesses and amenities would you like to see in this context?
Additionally, we encourage you to visit https://www.i93exit4a.com/ for updates on the new connection’s progress and plans.

Alice M. Yarnold and Samuel Yarnold Scholarship Trust

The Alice M. Yarnold and Samuel Yarnold Scholarship Trust, created in 1994, has been providing post-secondary school scholarships to New Hampshire residents since 1995. Known as the Yarnold Scholarship, the funds of the trust are focused on providing financial assistance to deserving NH residents pursuing degrees in the fields of medicine, nursing, and social work. Since its inception in 1995 the trust has awarded over $1 million in scholarship assistance to over 1,000 students. The scholarship amounts will be awarded between $3,000 and $7,500.

Applications for the award are available each year in early Spring with all application documents due by the June deadline. Students interested in receiving an award must complete the application and attach 2 letters of reference; post-secondary school transcript from the institute, college, university, or school they are attending; a completed FAFSA; and respond to a short essay question. However, scholarships are not available to graduating high school seniors, however once those students enroll in and complete the first year of post high school education in the fields of medicine, nursing, or social work we encourage them to apply for an award. To receive an application interested students should go to yarnoldscholarshiptrust.org or contact Laura Ramsdell at [email protected].

Once completed applications are received each is reviewed by the three trustees of the trust. The application review focuses on financial need, academic achievement, thoughtfulness of the essay response, and the likelihood the recipient will remain in NH to practice his/her chosen field in the health care system. After each trustee has reviewed all the applications recipients are selected and notified of the award; award checks are mailed to the program the recipient is attending.

Each year, for the past 25 years, approximately 30 - 40 NH residents have benefitted from receiving a Yarnold scholarship. Those recipients have become the doctors, nurses, and social workers practicing in NH health care settings today. Comments from students who received scholarship assistance for the 2023-24 year include “I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities that this scholarship opens up for me, which not only lightens the financial burden but also motivates me...” and “This award will be an incredible help towards my education and dream of becoming a pediatric nurse”. The trustees are committed to honoring the legacy of Alice and Sam Yarnold in providing an opportunity to NH residents to pursue a career in health care.
