A Detroit native, C. Michael Austin now makes his home in West Central Illinois. He has always been writing, playing and producing music but more so recently following a career in the Army. C. Mike
About C Michael Austin
C. Michael Austin was born Carl Michael Austin in Detroit, Michigan in 1963 to Arthur G. & Ella L Austin, both very vocally talented parents! C. Mike (as he's known by his closest fans) grew up with an abundance of different genres of music. His mother was an accomplished and renowned soul stirring Gospel singer. While, his father, not much for singing publicly, is quite the Blues singer. C. Mike recalls hearing both of these genres daily in his parents household.
In his teenage years, C. Mike was exposed to even more genres of music. With his sister & brother being older, the 1970's brought about the genres of R&B & Funk from his sister, with Rock & Country from his brother. Not to mention, the Jazz that was plentiful in his best friend, Melvin E. Stewart's parents house. Melvin's father was an extreme Jazz fan, and was a source of knowledge to its background.
It was 1978, when C. Mike was 15, that he discover a band from England. This band, known to the world as The Beatles, would set C. Mike on a course of music greatness! Because it is then, when C. Mike started writing his own songs! C. Mike's first song came in September of 1n 1978 at the (just before his 16th birthday) titled 'Wide Eyes'. a soft, easy listening love ballad. With the help of his best friend, Melvin on Bass guitar, and his cousin, Derris Ellington on Drums, C. Mike and the guys honed their talents and had written more than 100 songs by Spring,1979.
By 21, C. Mike had written or collaborated on more than 500 songs. But his need to support himself put his music on hold for 18 weeks! C. Mike joined the United States Army in February of 1985. Upon reaching his first duty station, C. Mike met up with other musician solders, and quickly gain a reputation as a solid, Rhythm guitar player. It was during this time that C. Mike met up with the members that would become the rock band, 'Rock Assured', playing off the unit motto, 'Rest Assured'. (C. Mike, along with Sean Boswell, Penni Allen, and Paul Hagg), wowed solders across Ft. Lewis, WA., with their talent to sound exactly like the record, note for note! Along with one crowd favorite, and the only original song the band performed, was C. Mike's songs, 'Special'. C. Mike has played for many people in many places throughout his military career. But in 1995 while stationed in South Korea, C. Mike created the band, 'Deadlined' (a term used by mechanics for broken equipment) with Dave Turner, Dean Romaker, Tamara Seign, & Tina Bren. As members transferred back to the states, the band welcomed Rommel Nicdo, Konrad Murak and DeAngelo Bailey. It was these members of the band that later became known as the Premier Troop Band of all of South Korea! Also garnering them Unit Certificates of Achievements for their talents!
In late 1996, C. Mike transferred to Ft. Drum, NY. But it was in 1997 when C. Mike met the woman of his musical dreams! Mary Quintanilla, a short, pretty Blonde with the voice of an angel from Texas walked into C. Mikes life covered in camouflage and combat gear in the middle of the woods on a Battalion Field Exercise! It was on that day, that C. Mike wrote Mary's first hit song, 'Amaze'. This brought them wide acclaim around Ft. Drum, and the surrounding Watertown, NY area as the group, Altshul Jada. The song also garnered them Division Commander's Coins, for ... as the 10th Mountain Division commander explained, "The best original song I have ever heard by solders not in the Army Band" But it was a collaboration of Mary's song, 'Fallen Angel' that solidified both C. Mike & Mary, as among the best of songwriters ever known. If asked, C. Mike will quickly describe Mary as his, "Musical wife for life!" Also, while at Ft. Drum, C. Mike wrote, co-wrote, and produced songs for local vocalist, Janine Smith, Lisa Utzig, Rebecca "Becky" Sanchez, and Michael England.
In 2000, C. Mike left the Army, and began promoting his music. It was then C. Mike released his CD, P. O. Box 9031. A double CD that he only gave out to a few as Christmas presents. It was this CD that brought C. Mike request for another. "The Fan Club CD" was born. And one of the songs on this CD proved to be a smash hit! 'Mesa' spent 16 weeks in the #1 spot in the Unsigned Artist section of MP3.com, with the album spending the same amount of weeks at #16!
As a Recording Workshop & Recording Institute of Detroit Alum, C. Mike spends his days writing recording, mixing, & mastering music.

C. Michael Austin is BACK!!
With the way 2020 has been, you would think that there were no bright spots in sight! NOT TRUE! Hell has seemed to have frozen over. And, whether you know him as Sarge, Hootie, Rome, or Carl, those of us that have followed him since his debut in Galesburg, Illinois knows that the name C. Mike means awesome music! Guitarist, Bassist, Drummer, Singer, Songwriter, Producer, and CEO of CMike Entertainment Group (LLC), C. Michael Austin has come out of retirement with a vengeance! Digging through all of his songs, C. Mike is gracing the masses of the world with Four (4) CD offerings, and Two in the making.
*The first is Quadruple Negative. Named for the recent four negative Prostate and Colon cancer test results he's received, the Four disc – CD box set brings us music he's written from 1978 through 2000. Each disc has a theme. “The Storyteller” brings us his Pop, Blues, & Jazz genre music, while “The Rock and The Hard Place” takes us on a ride with his Hard Rock genre – many never heard or released before! “The Bonus” CD is filled with songs that were also written, arranged, and produced by C. Mike, BUT, with a twist! The microphone duties fall to guest singing artist the likes of the world renowned vocalist Mary Quintanilla, Chris Smith, Melvin E. Stewart II (MESTII), and many others. It also contains never heard or released, and one & only Rap song that C. Mike has ever written (WARNING – this song contains derogatory language!) But, the real treat comes on the fourth disc, “2000”. You've probably heard these songs, but never like this! I will leave this to your imagination, but you will be surprised, …. and extremely pleased! Releasing in January/February 2021

*Keeping with his 'Storyteller' style, C. Mike's second CD, The Instrumentals! This is a collection of reflective type instrumental songs that seems to tell a story with just the music. Some songs are just simple rhythms, and other have the story being told with C. Mike and some of his friends providing the lead instruments. Some of the contributing artist are James Rooney, Walt Milden, Brad Surbur, Mike Fitzpatrick, and many others. There is one song on this CD that come with a warning for 'Adult Content' (and you can tell which it is by it's name) so use caution when listening to this CD. Releasing in January/February 2021

One can only speculate who pi**ed him off this time! The release of the two CD's are expected in Summer & early Fall, 2021!
If you're anything like me, waiting on C. Mike to release music for fifteen years has been absolutely brutal. But from what I've heard so far in my little sneak peek, it was damn worth the wait!
