On this day in Arkansas history, the Arkansas Gazette publishes its first issue in Little Rock in 1821 after moving from Arkansas Post.

150 years ago today, the Baring Cross Bridge opened to an ecstatic crowd. So much so, that a now-unidentifiable woman broke from the group and dashed across the new path, becoming the first person to actually cross the bridge following its opening! The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Congratulations to Katie Adkins and Chelsea Cinotto with the Arkansas Digital Newspaper Project. The National Endowment for the Humanities just awarded their programing another grant cycle to continue their efforts to digitize Arkansas newspapers for another two years.
