Join us for the annual Black History Month kick-off ceremony on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at the McMahon Memorial Auditorium! This event is free and open to the public, so come celebrate with us! 🎉

This year, the City of Lawton is proud to host under the theme 'African Americans in the Arts.' Mayor Stan Booker will sign the official proclamation, declaring February 2024 as Black History Month, alongside representatives from Lawton Public Schools, Cameron University, Fort Sill, the Lawton/Fort-Sill Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, National Pan-Hellenic Council of Lawton/Fort Sill, and the Lawton/Fort Sill Branch NAACP.

The event will feature a guest speaker and a musical performance by the Bethlehem Baptist Church Choir. You can also stick around for the Black History Month Art Show opening ceremony featuring local and Southwest Oklahoma artists! 🎨

This mornings fog has lifted into a low stratus cloud deck that will persist through the rest of today. We'll see a final round of fog/drizzle redevelop early Friday morning. Visibilities could reduce below 1/4 mile where fog may become dense. The fog/drizzle will dissipate by late morning as rain moves in from out of the southwest.

FREE diapers, formula or food! Comanche County Health Department will host the Infant Crisis Services BabyMobile as it returns to Lawton on Thursday, February 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The BabyMobile van will be in the parking lot of the Comanche County Fairgrounds - Just North of the Comanche County Health Department.
💝 The BabyMobile will provide families with a one-week supply of diapers and formula OR food for children from birth through age 3.
💝 No appointment is needed, while supplies last. The child does not have to be present to receive the items but you have to be the legal parent or guardian of the child.
Please be advised that the BabyMobile will not operate during inclement weather. Cancellations are possible.
