South Dearborn graduate killed in crash

A 2021 graduate of South Dearborn High School was killed early Wednesday morning when the car he was driving flipped over a guardrail on U.S. 50 near Hollywood Boulevard.
Lawrenceburg Police said Bryce Valdez was driving a black Chrysler when the crash occurred at about 1 a.m. It was determined that Valdez died on impact. No one else was in the vehicle.
According to the South Dearborn Athletics website, Valdez played defensive line for the Knights for the 2017-2020 seasons. He was a four-year letter recipient in football, All EIAC his junior and senior years, Most Valuable Defensive Lineman, and team captain during his senior year. He was chosen by his peers as King during the football homecoming festivities.
“Bryce was a fierce competitor on the field, yet you could always catch him with a big smile off of it. He will be greatly missed,” the website read.
Lawrenceburg police and fire department and EMS responded. Indiana State Police was called to reconstruct the crash. It is under investigation.

Rising Sun council deciding fate of police department

RISING SUN – The city is holding discussions to consider closing its police department, according to multiple sources.

In the event of the department disbanding, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office would take over the service of Rising Sun.

The proposition comes as the number of officers serving the Rising Sun Police Department has gotten smaller in recent years. Following a string of officer retirements and the recent arrest of former police chief Harlis Steven Hoover, the department currently has only five officers and a sergeant and has been operating without higher leadership for some time.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Tom Baxter and Rising Sun city attorney Andrew Baudendistel, the conversation surrounding disbanding the police department has come and gone over the last 20 or so years. However, Baxter said the city approached the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office with the current proposition near the end of 2023.

Greendale honors former officer with memorial stone
GREENDALE – Eighty-one years ago in December 1942, Policeman Otto John Glissman was killed after trying to flag down a car with one headlight out.
The driver hit Glissman with his car and the officer flew over the hood of the car and fractured his skull on the windshield instantly causing his death.
Greendale Police Chief Shane Slack decided the city needed to honor him more than just a small plaque in the lobby of the department.
The city dedicated a memorial outside of the police department on Dec. 19 honoring Glissman for his service.
