Yesterday was a historic day for the Filipino-American community in Las Vegas! The Filipino American Media Association of Nevada (FAMAN) proudly opened the doors to the FAMAN Fil-Am Media Resource Center, located in the Cambridge Center at the heart of The Future Filipino Town.

We're incredibly grateful to Commissioner Tick Seiferbloom for this honor and for proclaiming February 8th as FAMAN Day! This center will be a hub for our community, providing resources and support for generations to come.

Leizel Trinidad is a seasoned Editor-in-Chief and Community Relations Manager with over 21 years of experience leading the Philippine Times of Southern Nevada. A dedicated advocate for the Filipino-American community, Leizel has been instrumental in fostering cultural understanding, promoting community engagement, and amplifying the voices of her fellow community members.

This year, Leizel was elected as President of the Filipino American Media Association of Nevada (FAMAN), where she will serve a two-year term. FAMAN is a strong advocate for Fil-Am journalists and the voice of minority media. The organization aims to promote diversity and inclusivity in the media industry and provide a platform for underrepresented communities to have their voices heard.

Under Leizel's leadership as Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine Times of Southern Nevada, the newspaper has become a trusted source of news and information for the Filipino-American community in Southern Nevada. In a progressive move reflecting Nevada’s commitment to justice and inclusivity, the 2023 Nevada Legislature passed a law guaranteeing the right to vote for inmates awaiting trial in state jails. This decision aligns with the principle that individuals are innocent until proven guilty and ensures that pretrial detainees, who have not been convicted of a crime, retain their fundamental civic rights. Nevada Inmates Gain Voting Rights as a push to add power to the vote.

As a result of a law passed by the 2023 Legislature, inmates in Nevada jails are guaranteed the right to vote if they are awaiting trial.

Clark County has taken a major step towards officially establishing Filipino Town, a dedicated cultural district along Maryland Parkway between Flamingo and Desert Inn Roads. Spearheaded by beloved community leader Rozita Lee, this initiative is a tribute to the significant contributions and vibrant heritage of the Filipino American community in Las Vegas. The district will soon be home to popular Filipino restaurants, grocery stores, and media outlets, creating a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy Filipino culture.

This move is more than just recognition—it’s a celebration of diversity, unity, and the strength of community. With Filipino Town, Las Vegas is set to become an even richer, more inclusive city that honors the cultures that shape it.
