Man vs Wild was started by Ruckus Steve Swart in Lansing, Taylor Hawkins (aka Community Corporation) in Detroit, and DJ C-Sick in Brooklyn, NY. It was conceived as a project to highlight what we think is the best of classic house techno bass music and newer cutting edge versions of the same. It started as a podcast with the intention of becoming a record label at some point. In the last year we ha
ve added producers/djs Andy Lynch (formerly of LEAK) and North Lake. We have expanded to doing some regular parties in Lansing and Detroit. We have a record coming out this fall with new music from Community Corporation, North Lake, Andy Lynch, and Ruckus. Obviously we have a name that has already been used in a tv show. We kind of wanted to build on the idea that everything is stolen. No one can own ideas. We conceived doing our first 12" of simply remixed tracks in the style similar to ghettotech. We also like the tension in the name Man vs Wild, similar to the tension within electronic music. The idea that techno music is liberating and at the same time the sound of machines, inspired from the auto factories in detroit, which were far from liberating. We wanted to have a punk aesthetic, that connected some of the revolutionary anarchist and anti-capitalist themes to the music and the parties.
