The Lancaster County Homelessness Coalition has picked three nonprofits to help it expand street outreach in Lancaster this summer and fall.

They were part of more than $1.6 million awarded to support homelessness services over the next year.

The YMCA of the Roses has agreed in principle to staff and manage the 80-bed low-barrier shelter that the Lancaster County Homelessness Coalition plans to open this winter at Otterbein United Methodist Church.

The shelter is to open in December, following renovations that include an elevator and a sprinkler system.

Subaru Share the Love raises money for United Way, other organizations

This week, Lancaster County Motors Subaru presented the United Way of Lancaster County a check for almost $9,000 to help the community. The money was raised between Thanksgiving and early 2021 through Share the Love, a promotion sponsored by Subaru of America in partnership with individual dealerships. During Share the Love, when customers buy or lease a new vehicle, they can choose pre-selected charitable organizations to receive donations. As the effort to get the Covid-19 vaccine into arms continues, Lancaster EMS has been going the extra mile to make sure homebound individuals aren't left behind. Bob May, executive director of Lancaster EMS, and members of his team have been providing vaccines to people who struggle to get out of their homes for reasons such as transportation or health. “It’s a matter of transportation. When I heard they could come to my home that made it so much better. Because of my disabilities, it’s hard for me to move from A to B. Bringing the Covid-19 Vaccine to Columbia Residents

Residents living in senior housing in Columbia were able to get their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday without having to leave their complex. HDC MidAtlantic partnered with Rite Aid pharmacy for a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Trinity House Apartments and St. Peter Apartments. After almost five years of planning, a new early learning facility has opened in Columbia.
