UP AND RUNNING AND READY TO ROLL.

They say "nobody knows what happens when we die."
But I disagree.

Because this week I had the privilege of sitting down with Jem and Red from Mort Mic.
A podcast dedicated to casual discussions on death and dying.

Jem, forensic and autopsy specialist and Red, a mortician, know exactly what happens after you die. They see it every day. And boy howdy, do they have some stories to tell!

So sit back, put your feet up, and pull that tag off your toe.
We're about to get all death positive up in here.

SCIENTISTS SUGGEST THE SOUL DOES NOT DIE BUT RETURNS TO THE UNIVERSE

While everyone has their own views and thoughts on what happens when we leave this world and our bodies die, most people cannot agree on what that is. Some believe we are sent to a different place or at least our soul is and well there are even people who believe nothing happens at all.

At the end of the day, there is no set way to know because no one who has passed on can come back and tell us what happened, sure there are people who have what we call ‘near-death experiences’ but even those seem quite controversial in how things play out. All of this having been said, the answers to life after death in itself could be something hidden within quantum mechanics.

According to The Express, research that was going around back in 2018 really dove into this topic and suggested that at least on a quantum level, there may be more once our physical bodies have been lost. This basically going over how the soul itself may on some level live on. I know, this might be confusing, but please stick with me.

Basically, there are some researchers who believe that ‘quantum mechanics allows consciousness to live on following the body’s eventual demise.’ Consciousness is something even now we do not know much about and are constantly working to better understand and so, there are tons of questions that need answers in all of this.

UP AND RUNNING!!!
Available wherever you get your podcast fix.

This week I had the privilege of speaking with author, speaker, and teacher, Lynn K. Russell.
In addition to that already impressive list of credentials, Lynn is both an active spiritual practitioner, as well as a highly accomplished researcher.
In fact, her book THE WONDER OF YOU: What the Near-Death Experience Tells You About Yourself now in it's second edition, is the culmination of over 2500 documented and throughly researched cases of near death experiences.
Lynn's sincere and deliberate approach, combined with her own personal experiences, gives her a unique advantage in dealing with a topic most people willfully turn a blind eye to.

The question isn't "What happens when we die?"
It's "What happens to our consciousness when our physical bodies stop functioning?"

Find out in this week's episode.
And you can learn more about Lynn on her website:
https://lynnkrussell.com/
And THE WONDER OF YOU: What the Near-Death Experience Tells You About Yourself is available right now on Amazon.

Since we’re doing the 31 Days of Death, let’s get all Death Positive up in here.

It’s important to be able to talk about death and understand the idea of Death Positivity.
This isn’t a morbid concept nor is it a macabre fascination. Anyone whose livelihood is centered on the death trade, Funeral Directors, Morticians, Forensic Pathologists, will tell you a healthy relationship with death is an integral component to a complete and insightful life.
Fearing death will not delay it.
And dreading its eventual arrival will only cause unnecessary suffering.
But acknowledging its existence and yes, taking on faith what follows, is an incredibly liberating point of view.

Look, no one is riding through town ringing a bell yelling ‘Death is Coming….Death is Coming!!’
No one has to. Because we all the know the specter js ever present.
Its not to be feared. It’s a foreshadowing. A reminder.
The light is green. So go!
Enjoy! Live!
But don’t be afraid of the change. Because that’s all it is.
An unburdening if limitations.

Do I know this for a fact?
No, of course not.
Do I believe it to be true.
You bet your ass.

Bronnie Ware, an Australian nurse who spent several years caring for patients during the last 12 weeks of their lives, routinely asked her patients about “any regrets they had or anything they would do differently.”

She spoke of the phenomenal clarity of vision that people would gain at the end of their lives and the common themes that surfaced again and again during these conversations.

She wrote.
“For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives.

People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality. I learnt never to underestimate someone’s capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.

When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again.

Here are the most common five:

UP AND RUNNING!!

Hosting a podcast like this one gives me an opportunity to speak one-on-one with some truly amazing people.
Deborah Hanlon is one of those people.

Despite what your personal opinions might be of mediums and mediumship, there is simply no denying Deborah’s extraordinary insight as well as her unique perspective on the collective consciousness. She’s not an “I See Dead People” performer. But more of an “I Understand the Complete Picture” philosopher.
Both teacher and student. Professor and pupil. Deborah knows how ridiculous we all are. But also sees the potential we all have for collective awareness and super duper cosmic awesomeness. She is a force of nature and a pleasure to talk to.

I consider it a privilege to have her as my guest.

Dead...Dying....Death.
Muerte.
Morta.
Mort.
Mortinta.
We're talking about the great beyond, Abraham's bosom.
Departed, no longer with us, ceases to be.
You know...the final slumber. The eternal rest. The big dirt nap.
I'm dedicating the entire month of March to the topic of DEATH.
31 Days of discussion DEADicated to the deceased.
Not in a ghoulish or morose way, but an open and honest ( and hopefully entertaining ) anything goes conversation. Look, we're all headed there. Ain't no way around it. So let's explore the here and how it relates to the hereafter.
The physical, the emotional, the spiritual,
Last call. Last rites. Last ride.
I'm going to feature a new guest every week.
Someone in the know of the unknown.
Someone with their finger on the pulse of those without a pulse.
I think you see what I'm saying.
Starting tomorrow, March 1st., we dive in 6 feet deep and try to make a little sense of your chips and what happens when they get cashed.
We'll laugh, we'll cry. It'll be an emotional roller coaster.
I hope you all come along on this journey into eternal peace..

The popular Samoan adage ‘o le ala i le p**e o le tautua’ (the pathway to leadership is through service) is commonly understood by Samoans around the world as an important life value.

Enacting tautua (service) is one of the key fundamental tenets of being Samoan, both in traditional village contexts of the (mother)land and diaspora communities in transnational societies. Acts of service in a traditional village context centers on tasks and ways of being that show respect, obedience and diligence in honoring elders and families. .

None of what you do lasts.

Not to sound pessimistic, but it is liberating to accept this philosophy.

And speaking of philosophy, Marcus Aurelius reminded himself of all the people who have died, whether they had a “great” occupation or a “lowly” one. He said: “Run down the list of those who felt intense anger at something: the most famous, the most unfortunate, the most hated, the most whatever: Where is all that now? Smoke, dust, legend…or not even a legend. Think of all the examples. And how trivial the things we want so passionately are.”

Everything is temporary.
Pleasure, pain, elation, sorrow…even you. You are temporary.

Enjoy what you have while you have it and don’t lament it’s passing..

AMOUR FATI ROUND II
THE SEQUEL.
THE MUSICAL.
THIS TIME…IT’S PERSONAL.

Hey all, about two weeks ago, I posted a video talking about the practice of Amour Fati.
And well…some of you had opinions.
And thoughts.
And things to say.
And say them you did.
So here is my retort.

I welcome all comments, questions, challenges, etc. Speak up. Let me hear you. I don’t care if you disagree. That’s ok. Let’s talk openly and honestly. We might never see eye to eye, and that is also ok. I don’t expect every single person to agree with everything I say. Christ…how boring would that be? The only thing I can say with any authority at all, is that I only post about things I have personal experiences with. I’m not up here talking out of half my ass…or my full ass. Anything I say to you, I say it because it’s been a benefit to me in my life. Hard stop. Period the end. I’m not preaching the gospels or designing the blueprint of your life. That’s on you and you alone. I’m saying, ‘this works for me, so maybe consider it an option.’

So, that being said, take a spin in my chair and see what’s what..

So many people hide from the demons they fight.
They turn an intentional blind eye or mentally change their own internal conversation.
If you ask them what's up, they say "nothing."
If you ask them how they are, they will say "fine."
Maybe it's fear. Maybe out of shame.
Maybe a combination of both.
I know that hiding from your clouds will not shield you from the rain.
But joyfully splashing around in the puddles eases the stress of getting wet.
The more you try to hide from your anxiety, your depression, your trauma, and your pain, the more they cage you. The more you run from them, the further you get from yourself.
There is no shame in damage.
No dishonor in hurt.
No disgrace in ancient sins.
The past lives in a place you can't access. Nor would you want to if you could.
Embracing the things that trouble you are an investment in your future self.
It's the only path to attaining your truth.
And what's that we set about the truth?...it will set you free.

Do not hide from that which haunts you.
Hold it up and let the world see it.
Exposing your burden robs it of power and control.
Only in the light does it become less visible.

There's no pulling the covers over your head.
The monsters don't disappear.
They only become hungrier in the dark.
Show those motherf**kers how bright you can make it.

Embrace your pain.
Celebrate what used to constrain you.

We All Should.

Born into a privileged English household in 1882, author Virginia Woolf was raised by free-thinking parents. She began writing as a young girl and published her first novel, The Voyage Out, in 1915. She wrote modernist classics including Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse and Orlando, as well as pioneering feminist works, A Room of One's Own and Three Guineas. In her personal life, she suffered bouts of deep depression. .

AMOR FATI

Not the ‘formula for human greatness’ as it’s been marketed, but an invaluable tool in your ‘Better You’ toolbox.

Amor fati is a Latin phrase that means "love of fate" or "love of one's fate". It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens in one's life, including suffering and loss, as good or, at the very least, necessary.
But look, why read about it when you can watch my thirst trap mug explain it in this handy little video.

Depends on what your definition of ‘right’ is.
Did I do the necessary thing.
You bet your ass.

Now here’s the thing…and I know this might sound like a cliché…but if I can do it, ANYONE can do it.

I’ll explain this in more detail a little later. But for right now, I just want to plant the seed.
We’ll water it when the time is right.

Pssst...Hey man...yea you...hey, do you Ubuntu?
Cos it'd be a lot cooler if you did.
Are you new to Ubuntu?
Well son, let me pop your cherry.

Broken down simply, ubuntu is the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.

Sounds sus? No man, come closer and let me explain.
Ubuntu is a philosophy. Rooted in a relational form of personhood, basically meaning that you are because of the others. As a human being, you—your humanity, is fostered in relation to other people.

In practice, ubuntu means believing the common bonds within a group are more important than any individual arguments and divisions within it.

“Umuntu Ngumuntu Ngabantu” or “I am, because you are” is how Ubuntu is commonly described. It speaks to the fact that we are all connected and that one can only grow and progress through the growth and progression of others.

So you see, it's on the level. Nothing fake, phony or hollow.
This is the good s**t. The real s**t. The get-on-it-and-do-this-right s**t.
We could all use some ubuntu.

And the good thing is, there's an endless supply. Enough for everyone the world over.
You just need to tap into it..

HEALING
HEALED
HEAL.

What does it mean?
What is your definition?

Before taking a hiatus, I would occasionally get emails about me being a ‘coach.’

To be very clear, I’m not.
I never claimed to be.

In fact, with a few exceptions..people like , , my own personal therapist, and some others, people that have been through the practices they preach, I am VERY leery of anyone claiming to be a ‘coach’ or a ‘leader’ of any kind as it pertains to mental health.
Especially in this day and age when mindfulness and spirituality are so easily co-opted and monetized.
It’s become easily accessible snake oil fostered on people begging for help.
In the same way that owning a camera doesn’t make you a photographer, downloading Canva, doesn’t make you an authority on anything. Much less your mental well-being.
Would you take travel advice from someone that’s never left their house?
Abso-fu***ng-lutely not.
So why take advice, or worse, ‘therapy’ from an internet meme?
Look, I don’t have all the answers.
I never said I did.
But the ones I do, I came by honestly. Earnestly. I fought for those answers and they didn’t come easy.
And that’s because healing, no matter how you define it, is immeasurably hard.
It’s not supposed to be easy. And it’s not supposed to come from motivational pictures or matter-of-fact hard line stances drawn up on an app that anyone can download.
You accept what is.
You decide your path.
And you do the work.

Your healing is a puzzle.
And you keep adding pieces.

Admittedly I haven’t been putting this sentiment into practice for a full year. Well, not this current iteration. Howeve...
01/20/2022

Admittedly I haven’t been putting this sentiment into practice for a full year. Well, not this current iteration.
However, I did make a decision over a year ago to fully embrace my trauma and make it into something tangible.
Something that would hopefully become positive for others.
Hey…my loss is your gain, right?
That was a very conscious choice.
I wanted…no…at the time, I needed to do something. Anything. I just didn’t know exactly what. I only knew there was pain and rage and sadness and fury and it was eating me alive.
And thus, The Radical Humanist was born.
And here we are, some time later.
Yes, the beast still snarls. Absolutely. But the clouds are not as dark and the lingering stench of decay isn’t nearly as powerful.

I made a commitment to myself. An investment in my future.
I did the thing that needed to be done and I stuck to it.
I did the work. Even when it sucked.
I did it.
And now I’m over here.
Which isn’t quite where I’m headed, but it’s miles from where I was.

I know this just seems like yet another meme in an endless series of white noise and screaming bulls**t. But think about it rationally. Calmly. Think about it with intent and purpose.
How does anything get done?
How does anything change?

You commit to the act of transformation.
You break the heart of wishful thinking and fall in love with the revolution of doing.

Everything starts with a thought.
Then you’ve got to get off your ass and make it happen.
I’m living proof.

The important word there is ‘living.’.

Good Morning you beautiful bastards.
Here we are again.
At the table, napkins placed graciously in our laps, waiting for our entree of Today.

Right now, this, what you’re looking at here, this is the just the appetizer. The main course is on its way…wait…I think I…yes, here it comes!

Oh it looks good!
Fresh from the oven…careful, the plate is still hot.
So now that it’s here, now what?
What will you do?
Will you let it sit in front of you, barely touched, getting cold while you check your phone?

Are you going to take a picture of it and post it on Instagram but not actually enjoy it ( yes the irony is not lost on me ) Or will you dive in and savor every bite? Will you appreciate the time and effort that went in to preparing this day just for you?
The love. The care. The 42 flavors and 12 essential secret herbs and spices. Or will you play with it until the server comes and takes it away?
Remember, there are children starving in Ethiopia. They’ll never get the chance to sit at your table.
There are people that will never see what you’re seeing right now.
Don’t squander it.
Pretty soon it’ll be time to leave and like it or not, there will come a day when nobody will even remember you were here.
Make the most of it like it the last piece of pie. Because it just might be..

01/19/2022

Sun up to sundown. We met the day this morning and we wave goodbye to it tonight.
did I change the world today?
No of course not.
That should never be the goal.
aim high? Yes. Absolutely. But always be aware of the ground underneath you.
that’s where the good s**t lives. The right now s**t.
The here, not later s**t.
Keep looking up and you’ll miss everything that’s around you. No I did not change the world.
but I was a little better today than I was yesterday. And tomorrow I’ll be a little better than I am right now. And that’s the goal. That’s always the goal.
I brought the people who are close to me a little closer and I like to think I made their day a little better.

That’s what we do.
That’s what we are here for.

And tomorrow, if I’m lucky, I’ll get to do it again.

Realizing that’s a gift makes you a humanist.
Choosing to do something with it, makes you radical.

But enough overly saccharine pontificating, it’s time I got myself a drink. Have a good night you beautiful bastards!.

I LOVE Anne Lamott.
Love her.
She's not only an amazing author, but a public speaker, and progressive.

Her book Bird by Bird is a must read for anyone trying to find and develop their "inner voice,"
Not just for writing, but for life.
She's also endlessly quotable. Seriously, she's like a high-powered, fully automated, brilliant quoting machine. The kind you bring on on National Quoting Day to impress your friends and family. Truly she's the Griswold House Holiday Display of humans and you all need to stop what you're doing and go read literally anything she's written.
Go...now....right now...

Well, finish reading this....then go.

you are truly a life-changing force of nature..

Another perfect sunrise.

That’s your cue humans.
The sun did its’s part.
It got up. It shook the world awake and said ‘Adios Motherf**ker’ to any sins, mistakes, and missteps of yesterday. Those ships have left the harbor and are gone for good.

And now you’re been given the gift of a brand new today.
Mint condition. Still in the box. Fresh as a spring daisy
Think of all the people that didn’t wake up this morning. That aren’t fortunate enough to have this gift.

That sunrise is untapped opportunity. Virgin freedom.
To do with what you want.
But be forewarned…this is the only sunrise you get today. That’s it. Just the one. There’s no guarantee you’ll see this again. Not in this world.

So with that being said…what are you going to do with it?

Will you squander it?
Will you put in a box and stash it away in the back of your closet.
Next to those pants we both know you’re never going to fit in again?
….acid wash is never coming back…just get rid of them already.

Or will you do something with this moment? This fleeting nearly imperceptible moment of time?
So small. So fragile. But priceless.

Make today count.
Make it count.
Do right by the day and I promise it will do right by you.

It’s the only today you’ll ever get.
Don’t let it go without leaving your mark and signing your name..

I’M BAAAAAAACK!!!
Yes that’s right…after a somewhat longer-than-anticipated
sabatical,
I
Am
Back
At
It.
Back in the mix.
Back on the stick.
Back behind the wheel.
Back in the groove.
Back to the future.
Back to the beach.
Up around the bend.
And back to the mystery city.
I’m back. The Radical Humanist is back.
We’re reunited and don’t it feel so good.
But for real. I’m back and I want to thank you all for
holding down the fort and keep the lights on while I was
away.
As some of you know, I recently overturned my entire life
and took the first very necessary steps on a new journey. I
embarked. There was an embarking. Embarkment
abounded and now I’m knee deep in the hoopla, as they
say.
I want to get into the why’s and how’s and when’s and
where’s of it all, but not right now.
It’s a long story and requires a set up, a proper intro, a
prologue, some establishing shots, a few beats of rising
action, a climax…hehehe…”climax”…all that s**t. I’m just not ready to tell that story in it’s entirety.
But I will.
And I’ll do it like I do everything.
With style, grace, and gusto.
…and probably some booze.
But I’m getting off track.
I’m here now to say one thing and one thing only.
Thank You.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Radical
Humanist from day one.
And thank you to all of you that kept this alive in my
absence.
I’ve received dozens upon dozens of messages and DMs
and texts and phone calls. And although I haven’t
answered all of them ( or most of them ) please know that
is not indicative of my level of interest or commitment. To
the Radical Humanist, to you, to any of it.
It’s nothing more than an unfortunate function of timing
and circumstance. Moving..finding a place to live…starting
a new career…starting a new life..moving the needle…
then throw in all the holiday bruhahaha and..well…s**t get
cray. It just done get cray.
But I promise to get back to each and every one of you.
The important thing is, you’re here.
And I’m here.
And we’ve got work to do.
Important work.
And we’re going to do it like we’ve done everything thus

Monday. January 16, 2022.
6:00 am.
It’s a brisk 65 degrees out here this morning. The wind is whipping up a fuss. A small smattering of people are milling about. Dressed in layers. Wool hats and mittens.
Which is an odd sight down here in south Florida.
But despite the less than hospitable weather, nothing was going to keep me from this moment.
I’ve been away from the sunrise for a bit and if I’m being honest, it’s left me out of sorts.
Just like being absent from The Radical Humanist has left me with an emotional limp.
But sometimes, oftentimes, recalibration is necessary.
Your soul is a an organism. External from you. And it needs feeding.
It needs to see the valley in order to appreciate the peak.
And so here I am.

The Radical Humanist, and it’s oh-so-adorable host, is coming back in a big way. Things are in the works…there’s plans…an agenda..schedules…maybe even an affair or two. Things to see…people to do…that sort of thing.
You know how it be.
It be like that.

Right…let’s stop fu***ng about.
We’ve got important work to do.
Stay Tuned.
I promise it will be worth it..
