We have received several inquiries regarding the water levels of Rock Lake. Please see below for an update and a short explanation of how the dam will operate to ensure compliance with City Policy and DNR water level order:

On Tuesday, May 28th, Rock Lake achieved the maximum-allowable summer water level of 828.33'. This summer maximum is determined by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. In the event additional precipitation causes the water level to rise up to half an inch above this maximum level, water will be allowed to discharge over the top of the dam (weir mode) until the water level returns to 828.33'. If water levels were to rise more than half an inch above the maximum 828.33’, the gates will open (or***ce mode) and water will discharge beneath the dam until water levels return to the compliant level of 828.33'. A minimum DNR-required discharge of 0.13 cubic feet per second is maintained through all seasons. You may see City staff periodically raising the dam to perform a flush of sediment or other debris obstructing this minimum discharge to ensure compliance with DNR regulations.

LAKE MILLS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
High Winds Brush Pick-Up

The City of Lake Mills will be picking up brush through early next week as a result of the high winds that occurred on 5/21/2023. The last day of pickup will be Tuesday, June 4.

This includes brush neatly stacked with butt ends facing with the flow of traffic placed on the terrace. Brush is considered to be branches less than 2” in diameter.

Brush to be picked up should be neatly stacked on the terrace with butt ends facing with the flow of traffic and must not be mixed with other waste. These requirements have been put in effect to make the pick-up process quicker and, consequently, less expensive.

Lawn and garden waste, as well as brush, may also be taken to the Yard Waste Center on Stony Road at any time.

Flower Bed Volunteers Needed!

The City of Lake Mills Parks Department relies on the work and dedication of determined volunteers who take the time and effort to maintain flower beds and other public areas. These volunteers help to make Lake Mills a beautiful and welcoming place for all those who live, work, recreate, and travel here. A sincere thanks is extended to those who have maintained these areas in the past and to those who continue to provide their efforts.

There are still some areas where additional volunteers and assistance are needed for the 2024 season. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Vicki Wickliffe at (920) 648-5370.

Information on Monday's solar eclipse. 😎😎😎

On Monday, April 8 a rare solar eclipse will pass over North America. Although Wisconsin is outside of the path of totality (or 100% coverage of the sun), the open skies of our parks, forests and recreation areas offer prime viewing of the partial eclipse.

As the moon passes between the Sun and Earth, the sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. Wisconsin is expected to experience 75-90% coverage, with the highest levels occurring near the southeast portion of the state.

Shadow chasers can find the greatest totality at these properties:
– Richard B**g State Recreation Area (90% coverage)
– Big Foot Beach State Park (90% coverage)
– Kettle Moraine State Forest – Southern Unit (89% coverage)

Or stop by Newport State Park in Ellison Bay (84% coverage) or Lakeshore State Park in Milwaukee (90% coverage) for special eclipse-viewing events.

No matter where you’re watching from, remember to never look directly at the sun with your naked eye, even during a partial eclipse. Always use certified eye protection. For more details and safety tips, check out NASA's eclipse safety webpage: https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/safety
