DISCOVER LOUISIANA
You are at the heart of the cultural phenomena that is “Cajun” sweeping the country.
Cajun Country is unique even in Louisiana. Our food, music and spices are exported around the world, but these pieces are missing our secret ingredient: the people. Mix together our special blend of seasoning that is Cajun French with a pinch of Creole; a dash of Native American, Spanish, African and Caribbean; and a touch Anglo, Sicilian and Hungarian; and BAM, you’ve got the most diverse culture in our country.
In our backyard, you will find more of the finest restaurants and freshest seafood than anywhere else in the nation. In 2015, Baton Rouge and Lafayette each had more dining establishments per capita than Austin and New York City. Take a stroll down anyone of our quaint Main Streets, and you will be transferred back in time to a simpler way of life as you visit the art galleries, museums and festivals that preserve our culture and heritage. Set out on foot or by car into our historic districts, featuring hundreds of structures from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.
You’ll find towns and cities shaped by the economy of the 1800s, which relied on ancient transportation routes through the swamp. The Civil War left its mark here, visible in the architecture and local culture that exists today. In Plantation Country, you can experience 18th- and 19th-century luxury on historic sugar plantations. Shop at dozens of antique stores and take a piece of the past home with you.
