More GMB optimization!

When you set up your Google Business Profile, you’re prompted to select your primary business category. What most people don’t know is that you can have up to ten business categories.

Google predefines the categories, so you can’t just enter your own, but it’s important to use the categories that best describe your business. Now, you don’t want to use all ten categories: it would just look messy. Instead, try to limit your categories to two or three.

As an example, a pizza restaurant may choose “pizza restaurant” as the primary category but choose “pizza delivery” as a secondary category and “catering” as a tertiary category. This categorization helps you show up whether someone is searching for “pizza near me” or “pizza delivery near me.”

Your business description is a huge asset on Google Business Profile because it allows you to contribute rich content directly to Google. Think about it: you’re writing about your products and services on a profile that lives on Google.

The business description allows for up to 750 characters (letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation), and I recommend you maximize your description as best as possible.

For instance, you can highlight some of your most popular products and services, or you can mention the towns and cities where you provide service. The fuller this description is, the better.

Are you open?

Simply put, you want people showing up to your business when you’re open. If your Google Business profile says that you’re open, but you’re closed, that’s a huge issue!

You’ve just set an expectation with the consumer that they can (1) reach you, (2) visit you, and (3) buy from you. If you’re not available when they need you in that micro-moment, then you have alienated them, and you’re out of the running for their business.

Hours can be updated anytime, and you can add holiday hours ahead of time, too.

This morning I decided to spend some time at a local coffee shop ☕️ . While reading my book and sipping my latte, a group of ladies sat at the table before me. One by one, they trickled in, and honestly, at first, I didn't notice or think much about them, but finally, I looked up long enough to take in the view.

This view didn't include amazing sceneries from faraway lands, highlight some incredible accomplishment🏆, or even capture a picture that could go viral at any moment.

Nope, it's just an ordinary day, in a great local coffee spot, with some ordinary people, just down the road from my home.

If you look closer, though, it was a pretty extraordinary sight. It's what life is really about, and these ladies understand that.

Real authentic connection. This is how I aim to approach all the relationships in my life, and when I reach my golden years, those most important to me will still be standing (or sitting) side by side with me, sharing the simple moments that really count. 👯‍♀️

What does it mean to populate your Google My Business fully?

A family member recently joined an online dating site but couldn’t figure out why they weren’t making connections despite their hours of clicking, swiping, and viewing. When they asked me to look at their profile, it was clear why they weren’t succeeding.

They hadn’t filled out their entire profile. There were blank fields when it came to their interests and background, and as a result, they appeared like they weren’t relevant to potential suitors.

Think of Google as a matchmaker: someone searches for something they need, and Google connects that person with the most relevant results. Online profiles are only as good as the information you put into them, which remains true with Google Business Profile.

Yesterday, I talked about why it's essential to make sure your GMB is properly optimized...but how do you do that??

According to Google, local results favor the most relevant results for each search, and businesses with complete and accurate information are easier to match with the right searches. With that said, it’s vital that customers know more about what you do, where you are, and when they can visit you. Provide information like (but not limited to) your physical address, phone number, and description.

To optimize your profile, you’ll want to:

Fully populate your profile
Fill in your business description
Keep your hours updated
Choose the correct business categories
Select all applicable attributes
Verify your location

Any business today needs targeted visibility on Google. Most businesses know that this requires optimizing their website and Google Ads, but most don’t know that a third entity also needs optimizing: their Google business listing. Officially known as your Business Profile, this powerful 🔋listing is a dynamic snapshot of your business that highlights your best features. It enables potential customers to quickly find, learn about, and engage with you—all from the SERP.

And yet, despite the 167 billion searches performed on Google each month, a BrightLocal study showed that the typical Business Profile only averages 1,260 views during that period (that’s 0.00000075%!). Even worse, only 59 actions are taken from those 1,260 views. That’s less than 5%.🤯

The problem is not the Google My Business platform; not nearly enough businesses fully utilize its impressive features.

This little girl is incredible! Saturday, she hiked the entire Chimney Tops Trail!

1.75 miles in, 1.75 out
45 flights of stairs
over 4,600ft in elevation
and all through freezing temps and ice.

Now I know what she is capable of!

She is the definition of what unshakable represents. In the face of challenges and adversity, she was completely unwavering and conquered that freakin mountain!
