Giant sequoia felled in Kit Carson Park
A giant sequoia tree, more than 80 feet tall, was felled Thursday after it had mostly died because of the drought in the Klamath Basin.

Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee
A Falcon 900, manned by Ed Langerveld, president and CEO of Klamath Falls based Emergency Airlift, took off from the airport this morning to fly to Sacramento to pick up Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee. Sgt. Gee was killed in the attack outside Kabul’s Airport in August. Langerveld will fly Sgt. Gee from Sacramento to Dulles International Airport in Virginia where she will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Fire crews are on the scene of a brush fire that sent smoke over Klamath Falls. It is burning roughly behind Klamath Gymnastics building, 2200 Shasta Way, though crews have it mostly knocked down as of 6:45 p.m.
Check out this timelapse video of Klamath Health Partnership's drive-thru COVID-19 vaccine clinic today at the Klamath County Fairgrounds. Crews administered approximately 1,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine — roughly 200 more than last week's event. People were able to go through the screening process, receive their shots and monitor for allergic reactions all without leaving their cars.

The Oregon State Police will welcome troopers involved in a fatal shooting incident in April back to work after an investigation revealed that officers responded correctly, according to a news release. Photos and video footage from the incident have now been released to the public.

This afternoon Superintendent of Klamath Falls City Schools Paul Hillyer buried a time capsule underneath the bell outside of Klamath Union High School. The Class of 2017 got to put things in the time capsule for students of the class of 2069 to dig up in 50 years. Former school board president Bill Jennings said this is the first time a time capsule had been buried at KU that they know of.
