The Trifilm design team had boat loads of fun giving a re-brand in celebration of their 75th anniversary. Inspired by the vintage charm of the festival's original 1950s branding, the new look pays homage to Seafair's iconic maritime legacy, resurfacing timeless design elements and giving them a modern twist. We’ll see you this summer, Seafair!

You can’t find the right answer without asking the right questions. Trifilm is proud to have worked with Microsoft to create “The Prompt”, a series hosted by Trevor Noah, Microsoft’s Chief Questions Officer.

In the latest episode, Trevor sits down with Dr. Jonathan Bricker, a behavioral psychologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The two explore how the role of AI can help people quit smoking through a chat-based app called QuitBot. This past weekend, the Trifilm team had some hometown fun – we took to the skies, waters, and shores of Lake Washington to capture this year’s iconic Seafair-ing traditions and community events in partnership with Seafair Festival.

Since its origin in 1951, Seattle’s annual Seafair Festival has been an integral part of our city’s cultural fabric. Today, the annual marine tradition lives on — connecting communities, celebrating Seattle’s rich history, and reinforcing Seattle's self-professed moniker as the "boating capital of the world."

The day Nunavut went dark: Triflm worked with Unlocked to tell a story of community resilience in the face of an isolating, digital threat.

Nunavut is an Inuktitut word for “our land”. A land that is home to over 30,000 indigenous peoples and stretches across the majority of the Canadian Arctic, making it Canada’s largest northernmost territory. The Arctic climate proves to be harsh and access for residential communities is limited. When a ransomware attack hit the Government of Nunavut’s system, residents’ ties to critical resources and services were severed.

Between the Rains premiered this past weekend at Tribeca Festival. We were honored to share this experience with an incredible group of people who, over the course of 4 plus years, worked tirelessly to share with the world this very timely and intimate story of tension and connection amidst environmental catastrophe.

Congratulations to Andrew H. Brown, Moses Thuranira Thiaine, and the Turkana community for the outpouring of well-deserved recognition. We will share viewing options as soon as the details emerge - this is an urgent and beautiful story you won't want to miss!

We are days away from the World Premier of Between the Rains at the Tribeca Film Festival. Saturday, June 10th NYC. Visit https://www.betweentherains.com/ for more details.

Filmed over the course of four consecutive years during record low annual precipitation in northern Kenya, Between the Rains is a feature collaboration with the Turkana-Ngaremara community that seeks to understand the experiences of a childhood caught within a traditional culture that is a casualty of climate change.

“Our biggest challenges — human health, the health of our societies, economies and ecosystems, depend on the smallest of species. Insects pollinate the food we eat, microbes invent the antibiotics we take and viruses generate the epidemics we fight. If we can monitor the small life around us, then we can predict the big.” 🦋🪲🌎🔬🦟

Trifilm is proud to be part of the Executive Producing team of BETWEEN THE RAINS - a feature length documentary premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 10th.

In our time and travels as a creative team, we’ve seen firsthand how those that are least responsible for climate change – are the ones feeling its impact the most.

BETWEEN THE RAINS was filmed over the course of four consecutive years and looks at the global issue of climate change through the lens of the Turkana. For this tribe — one of the oldest in the world — climate change is not an abstract concept but an immediate reality pushing them toward cultural extinction.

Our main character, Kole, is a shepherd boy whose name means “lives among the goats.” Kole is forced by his village elders, and older brother Patrick, to go through the tribe’s traditional rite of passage to manhood – resulting in an intimate, vérité coming-of-age story, set against the backdrop of a traditional culture caught in the crosshairs of a climate crisis.

Special thank you to the Turkana-Ngaremara community for sharing their story.

Innovation hinges on our ability to see the world differently. Breaking boundaries and looking between the lines in an effort to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges.

In this fully 3D-animated opening title sequence, the team explored a use of abstract textures, patterns, and materials — inspired by the vast landscape of innovations represented in the series’ episodes. 🌲🧵🌈💠🧬

Bold statements merit bold typography. In this piece we created with our friends at Breakthrough Energy, we play with scale – marrying oversized gradient type with our series' minimalist set and an energetic cadence to reinforce key moments that detail the efforts needed to meet net-zero emissions. Watch the full piece here:

This year, I’m starting a new tradition: Each fall I’ll share my thoughts on where the world is—and isn’t—making progress in the effort to reach net-zero car...

Three commercial flights, a precarious boat trip, and a walk through the Tañon Strait with gear held above our heads – brought Trifilm to Olympia Island in the Visayan Islands chain of the Philippines. The team was moved by stories from rural school children and teachers who are using new technologies to reimagine their education.

“Our biggest challenges - human health, the health of our societies, economies, and ecosystems - depend on the smallest of species. Insects pollenate the food we eat, microbes invent the antibiotics we take, and viruses generate the epidemics we fight. If we can monitor the small life all around us, then we can predict the big.”

Through a network of robotic sensing platforms, Project Premonition aims to continuously monitor our environment to detect potential pathogens and disease-carrying animals before they cause outbreaks.

A few more frames from this season of ALT. In episode 2, Gurdeep Pall takes us to class.

“As humans we run scenarios in our heads all the time. Trying to predict how our actions might play out. What if we could accurately simulate the real world in a digital reality? Try different actions in parallel realities - perhaps thousands of times - go back and try again. If we could do this, we could learn and improve at an exponential rate. Autonomous Systems connect the world of bits to the world of atoms.”

We're grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of the effort towards a zero-carbon future:

Bill Gates' new book "How to Avoid a Climate Disaster" launched this week. It outlines a plan to reduce our world’s greenhouse gas emissions to zero – including the steps each of us can take and the innovation required to get there.

Together with our friends at Breakthrough Energy we created a few pieces to help share the message.

Avoiding a climate disaster is one of the greatest challenges mankind has ever faced. That’s why we need breakthrough innovations – a lot of them – to contin...
