NFL fans couldn’t stop themselves from cracking jokes about a certain red-nosed reindeer seeing Mason Rudolph go off in his return to the field just before Christmas.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback inspired his team to a 34-11 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday in his return to the field after a two-year break.

Mason Rudolph thrived after earning his first start for the Pittsburgh Steelers in two years against the Cincinnati Bengals[/caption]

Seeing the forgotten quarterback fare well, NFL fans couldnt stop themselves from making Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer jokes[/caption]

With Kenny Pickett still nursing his injured ankle and Mitch Trubisky struggling, head coach Mike Tomlin named Rudolph, 28, as the starting QB for the Bengals matchup.

The ex-Oklahoma State standout got the nod almost exactly two years after his last NFL appearance – the 36-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on December 26, 2021.

And he thrived on the field, connecting with wide receiver George Pickens for an 86-yard score on his very first completion.

Rudolph helped the typically stuttering Steelers offense to score three touchdowns and register 263 total yards to take a 24-0 lead after the first half.

Watching the quarterback’s heroics, NFL fans brought up the tale of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and joked his namesake couldn’t disappoint this close to Christmas.

“Mason Rudolph the Red Zone Reindeer taking the reigns & leading the way in Pittsburgh! About time they let him join in this pre-Christmas game,” one wrote on X.

“Mason Rudolph having the best game of his life right before Christmas is a little… on the nose,” another added.

“Rudolph going crazy is big Christmas energy,” a third said.

“Rudolph… two days before Christmas… fitting…” one wrote.

Hilariously, the Steelers honored Rudolph by playing the children’s Christmas song about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer after sealing the win over Cincinnati.

The quarterback ended up completing 17 of his 27 pass attempts for 290 yards and two touchdowns in Week 16.

He’s become the first Steelers QB to pass for over 250 yards and two TDs since Ben Roethlisberger in 2021.

Also, the 34 points the Steelers put up against the Bengals are the most they have scored in a single game during the 2023 NFL season.

Rudolph enjoyed a short run as the Steelers’ starting quarterback after Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending elbow surgery in 2019.

In the following years, the former third-round pick served as backup to Big Ben before being relegated to third-string QB behind Trubisky and Pickett in 2022.

AJ, 35 and the 38-year-old American were supposed to win their Saudi Arabia semi-finals – against the Swede

ANTHONY JOSHUA pushed aside the disappointment of his NINE FIGURE two-fight Deontay Wilder deal falling through by demolishing Otto Wallin in five rounds..

AJ, 35 and the 38-year-old American were supposed to win their Saudi Arabia semi-finals – against the Swede and Joseph Parker – and finally start their rivalry on March 9.

Anthony Joshua celebrates victory after battering Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia[/caption]

Wallin was left with a horror battered face and suspected broken nose[/caption]

But just before Joshua had to make his high-pressure ringwalk – into the emptiest non-covid arena he has ever faced – Wilder was battered and seemed on the cusp of retirement.

It must have a horrible blow to the London 2012 legend but he his anger and frustration on his two-time amateur opponent and made it a hat-trick.

The Sweden hero had the confidence to walk across the desert arena to Abba’s ‘Winner Takes It All’ anthem.

The loser had already fallen in the previous fight, with Alabama’s biggest puncher self sabotaging with a stinking Parker performance.

Even with the Wilder fight in ashes, AJ didn’t emerge waving the white flag, he wore it embossed with diamonds from head-to-toe.

Joshua said: “I wasn’t watching it. I focus on myself. I was sitting there focusing on myself. I heard Deontay lost but so what, he’ll come back.

“I had to focus. After everything Deontay said about me I could rip him apart right now but I am taking the higher ground.

“He can come back and fight another day – I am sure everyone still wants to see that fight.”

AJ’s start was as bright as his kit, he pawed out his lead left hand to block and nullify Wallin’s southpaw jab.

And he drove a handful of malicious right hands toward the underdog’s fleshier torso.

In one instance when he knew he had got too greedy with an attack, he nodded in mature acceptance.

Wallin’s nose was busted open early in the three by two hard doses of southpaw kryptonite.

A trio of straight stiff right backhands ripped through Wallin’s guard and popped his nose, undoubtedly making it hard for him to breath, with so much of the fight still to go.

Josh got a useful warning in the third when he targeted Wallin’s body too obviously and got a clip around the ear as he crouched down.

It was one of the few moments of success for the leftie whose nose was streaming and gut was taking a regular pasting.

Joshua stopped Wallin in five rounds something Tyson Fury had failed to do[/caption]

Joshua targeted the body throughout and simply outclassed his opponent[/caption]

AJ landed a good few more right hands in the fourth too, the younger more spiteful version might have sustained the attack but he was happy impressing the judges and chipping away at Wallin’s resolve.

Wallin was staggered by a one-two at the start of the fifth too, this 18sy version of AJ was powerful and precise without taking risks.

And a brilliant left hook almost knocked Wallin spark out, legs as solid as an Ikea table – aided by the ropes – kept him vertical.

But the right side of his face was clearly obliterated and a purple mess.

When the referee went over to check the almost instant damage that grew out of Wallin’s face, he knew to wave it off immediately.

If anyone was genuinely worried about the 34-year-old’s mindset and focus before Deontay Wilder blew their mega-money plans, they would have wanted the returned shrink Dr Frazer Crane raced over to Riyadh to check on the London 2012 legend.

If Joshua had the 12-round domination of the Bronze Bomber on a TV in his dressing room, he would have set through a 36-minute horror show that slowly sapped at his inspiration and brutalised his planned 2024 earnings.

Long before Wilder fumbled the bag in the most miserable of ways, AJ knew he was in for a testing night, with 13 years to prepare for the Swedish southpaw and former prison warden.

Joshua looked sharp as fans claimed the two-time heavyweight king is back[/caption]

‘’

Wallin couldnt cope with Joahuas power and intensity[/caption]

’’

In 2010 – just a few months after being released from a spell on remand at Reading prison – he won the respected Haringey Box Cup by beating the leftie at darts Mecca Ally Pally.

And he did the double over his fellow novice six months later when they met on Wallin’s home soil.

And in 2015 – when Joshua needed southpaw sparring ahead of his first world title shot against southpaw Charle Martin – the pair did sparring rounds up in Sheffield to help Joshua’s career skyrocket.

Wallin felt his work with mentally unstable prisoners in his previous career – and his decade working with his own sports psychologist – gave him the mental edge over the Englishman.

Swapping over four trainers in his last five fights and drastically changing his boxing style from ruthless knockout action man to cautious point-scoring boxer, was also seen as a sign that AJ’s once-white-hot star was on the wane.

Momentum was definitely with the underdog, following the 2019 fight with Tyson Fury that any decent ringside doctor and referee would have stopped in his favour, after he whacked a 47-stitch gash into the Gypsy King’s eye.

And in September he went to the lion’s den of Turkey to face Armenian Murat Gassiev and upset the odds officially with the judges who owed him more than a split decision.

But he was no match for the latest version of AJ and new trainer Ben Davison who celebrated a bitter-sweet win.

ANTHONY JOSHUA has had his say on missing out on a historic showdown with Deontay Wilder.

The pair had a lucrative two-fight deal worth a whopping £100million in place before their respective Saudi showdowns with Otto Wallin and Joseph Parker on Saturday night.

Defeat to Parker scuppered a two-fight deal with Anthony Joshua worth £100m[/caption]

AJ refused to stick the boot in the defeated Wilder after having his hand raised[/caption]

But former WBC heavyweight champion blew their long-overdue showdowns with a lacklustre display against Parker, who won their Riyadh Rumble via unanimous decision.

Joshua didn’t slip on the Swedish banana skin in Wallin, stopping the southpaw in the fifth round of the main event.

And he refused to stick the boot into Wilder, who will no doubt be licking his wounds after blowing the biggest payday of his career.

AJ said: “I was sitting there focusing on myself.

“I heard Deontay lost but so what, he’ll come backI had to focus.

“After everything Deontay said about me I could rip him apart right now but I am taking the higher ground.”

Joshua, however, refused to close the door on sharing the ring with his long-time rival – whose future is well and truly up in the air.

He said: “He can come back and fight another day – I am sure everyone still wants to see that fight.”

Anthony Joshua was back to his slick and methodical best against Otto Wallin[/caption]

Joshua was back to slick and sharp self against his former sparring partner, whose face was left battered and bruised.

But he refused to big up his performance, saying: “I can’t rate my performance, my team and fans can do that.

“It wasn’t a throwback fight, just another fight.

“I told everyone in the build-up I had to only focus on Otto, it wasn’t a throwback fight, just another day in the office.

“I just want to be victorious for as long as I can.

“I have been around the blog, I know that hard work pays off.

“Otto is a true warrior, I am sure he would have carried on but his corner saved him for another day.”

AJ’s sights are well and truly set on becoming a three-time heavyweight champion following a successful three-fight career rebuild this year.

He said: “I am searching for greatness, not hopping around and enjoying myself. I am searching for greatness.”

And promoter EddieHearn revealed Filip Hrgovic could be their new target in what they hope will be a vacant world title shot.

Hearn said: “We signed for Wilder, he lost tonight.

“Maybe it’s a blessing because AJ wants to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

“It’s gonna be AJ vs Hrgovic for the world title.”

For months there had been talk of a huge mega-fight with Deontay Wilder in 2024.

ANTHONY JOSHUA smashed Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia, putting on his best performance in YEARS – but who will he fight next?

For months there had been talk of a huge mega-fight with Deontay Wilder in 2024.

Anthony Joshua smashed Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia

Deontay Wilder lost to Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia[/caption]

JOSHUA VS WALLIN AS IT HAPPENS

But Wilder lost to Parker via unanimous decision on the undercard in Saudi Arabia, putting his two-fight deal with AJ up in smoke.

Joshua will now likely have to find a new opponent for the rumoured March 9 date.

So who will he fight next?

Who will Anthony Joshua fight after Otto Wallin?

Joshua was lined up to fight Wilder across two separate fights in 2024, but that’s now not set to happen after the latter’s defeat to Parker.

Joshua, who has fought Parker before, beating him on points in 2018, may look for a rematch with the New Zealander.

But the money on offer to fight Parker is nowhere near the level he was going to earn to fight Wilder.

Joshua’s best bet may be to target a world title shot again.

Anthony Joshua takes on Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia[/caption]

In that case, he could wait for the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk on February 17.

But one stumbling block is the rematch clause, which could leave AJ sidelined for months as he waits for the winner of their two fights.

Joshua could then look to secure a mandatory shot at the IBF title, which is set to be called next.

That would line him up with a fight against Filip Hrgovic, who beat Mark De Mori on the undercard in Saudi.

One thing’s for sure – Joshua’s next fight is no longer set in stone, unless a new contract with Wilder can be renegotiated.

Anthony Joshua impressed in his stoppage win over Otto Wallin[/caption]

After his win Joshua walked to the edge of the ring and beckoned over Ruiz, who took his world championship belt off him in 2019.

The Brit leant over the ropes and shook hands with Ruiz before putting his fist to his heart.

Ruiz smiled in return and put his thumbs up, with the pair clearly on good terms despite their history.

Joshua, 34, beat Ruiz in their Saudi Arabian rematch to take back his world championship titles six months after his first-ever loss.

The heavyweight is still on a quest to become world champion for a third time following his back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

And he helped his chances of a world title showdown after cruising to victory over Wallin.

Joshua landed 53 punches in just five rounds against the big Swede, who managed just 25 in return.

Wallin’s team called a halt to the contest after the fighter suffered a suspected broken nose, with medics attending to him in the ring.

Arsenal supporters topped the table in buying friends the wrong scarf or cap a poll found.

MORE than half of Premier League fans wind up rivals with merchandise gifts from their own club for Xmas.

Arsenal supporters topped the table in buying friends the wrong scarf or cap a poll found.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City fans topped the list of fans getting ready to wind up their mates on Christmas Day

Sixty-five per cent of them gave Gunners gear to mates who follow Spurs.

Next were Liverpool supporters, with 62 per cent buying Everton pals merchandise from Anfield.

Man City fans came third, with 60 per cent winding up United muckers.

At the bottom end, Fulham were 18th with 30 per cent admitting joke buys, and Brentford 19th on 28 per cent.

Bournemouth fans on 26 per cent were least likely to prank their pals, according to a poll of 2,200 supporters by BettingTips4You.com.

Spokesman John Pentin said: “Our survey brings to light the lighter side of football fan culture.”

ARSENAL headed into their match against Liverpool knowing that a spot at the top of the Premier League Christmas tree was up for grabs.

And Gunners centre-back Gabriel got them off to the perfect start by scoring inside four minutes of the Anfield clash – their quickest ever goal at the ground in the Premier League era.

There was nothing to separate the title challengers[/caption]

Gabriel got Arsenal off to the perfect start at Anfield[/caption]

Here’s how the team’s played on paper

The game swung back and forth

Arsenal only held their width on the right flank with Bukayo Saka and Ben White

However, Mohamed Salah hit back before long after skipping past a hapless Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The two sides largely cancelled each other out for the remainder of the first half with no one able to create another clear cut chance.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus flashed dangerous crosses across the area but they came to nothing with no one in the box to attack them.

Trent Alexander-Arnold somehow failed to score a Liverpool counter-attack when he struck the bar in the second half, but Arsenal will be more than happy to escape Anfield with a point.

Here’s how SunSport rated the table-topping Gunners at Anfield.

David Raya – 5

David Raya completed just five passes against Liverpool

Could do nothing about Salah’s effort which was powered in at the near post.

Generally assured in dealing with crosses that were swung into the box but passing was less than ideal for an away side at Anfield who want to play out from the back with only two accurate long balls from 17 attempted.

Ben White – 6

Solid and dependable as ever at right back with attacking threats mainly coming down Zinchenko’s side.

Saw one dangerous cross to the edge of the area go unrewarded.

Gabriel – 8

Gabriel scored a superb header inside four minutes[/caption]

Gabriel put in a Man of the Match display

Superb header to open the scoring after just four minutes and was at his best in the defensive phase.

Bailed out his underperforming team-mates a number of times. One of the division’s best and proved it here.

William Saliba – 7

Comparisons to Virgil van Dijk earlier this week do the Frenchman a disservice, as proven by his display at Anfield with his assured and composed performance.

Made seven clearances as he nullified many Liverpool threats.

Oleksandr Zinchenko – 3

Oleksandr Zinchenko did not cover himself in glory against Liverpool[/caption]

Beaten far too easily by Salah who barely put in any effort to get past the Ukrainian and was bailed out by Rice after giving the ball away to Salah early in the second half.

Passing was too often not good enough as well.

Declan Rice – 7

A constant reassuring presence for Mikel Arteta‘s side both in and out of possession by cutting out dangerous attacks and staying composed under pressure.

Proving to be worth every penny for the Gunners and could be the final piece to end their 20 year title drought – though we will only know that come May.

Kai Havertz – 4

Kai Havertz was largely on the fringes of the game

Another display where you question his role in the team.

Has improved in recent weeks by adding goals from midfield, but today was a less-than impressive set back on the German’s road to consistency in an Arsenal shirt.

Martin Odegaard – 5

Pinpoint cross from a dead ball to assist the opener but was fortunate to not give away a penalty early on after a seemingly deliberate hand movement towards the ball.

Provided some good switches of play after the break but seemed to be overrun in the midfield battle as the game went on.

Bukayo Saka – 6

Bukayo Saka posed a constant threat against Liverpool but faded as the game went on[/caption]

Started brightly and was a constant pain for the Liverpool defence with his incisive runs and dangerous wing-play in the first half.

Had less joy following the introduction of Joe Gomez after he replaced the injured Kostas Tsimikas but did still manage to flash some dangerous crosses across into the area.

Gabriel Martinelli – 5

Always a problem for Liverpool thanks to his driving runs and ability to bring the ball up the pitch, but was unable to show his quality in the final third – a common theme for the Brazilian this season.

Had a couple of good chances to break but ended up being run down and tackled by Ibrahima Konate. Subbed for Leandro Trossard after 68 minutes.

Gabriel Jesus – 4

Largely anonymous in the opening exchanges with Van Dijk and Konate marshalling the home sides defence.

Can never question the Brazilian’s industry but failed to lead the line effectively today, not that he had much support to do so.

Subs

Leandro Trossard (on for Martinelli 68 minutes) – 6

Has so often been the difference maker for Arsenal coming off the bench and added a dynamic threat so stretch the Reds tiring defence but was unable to get a decisive winner.

Eddie Nketiah (on for Jesus 78 minutes) – 5

Had next to no impact after being introduced.

Boxing fans fume and demand refund as sound goes off during DAZN coverage of Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin https://ift.tt/oXEt7bU

DAZN’s coverage of the fight experienced a loss of audio in the opening rounds.

FURIOUS boxing fans demanded a refund after sound coverage for Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin was lost.

DAZN’s coverage of the fight experienced a loss of audio in the opening rounds.

Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin experienced audio issues

An apology was put on fans TV screens

And furious fans were left demanding a refund

The broadcaster posted an apology for the audio problem with a sticker in the top corner saying: “Apologies of the audio issues.”

TNT Sports did not experience the same audio issues.

However, viewers watching the channel were still aware of the issue due to their use of DAZN’s video feed which had posted the apology.

One fan said: “Gonna request refund.”

A second said: “Someone tell DAZN boxing is not the kind of sport you watch without sound.”

A third said: “I have every other fight sports promotion winning tonight because DAZN is blowing it, they lost the wilder vs AJ fight and have no sound for main event.”

Another said: “Gotta love … losing all sound for the AJ v Wallin fight.”

While a fifth added: “Watching DAZN for seven hours and they turn the sound off on the main fight.”

Ironically, DAZN announced they had fixed the audio issue just as Joshua sealed his stoppage victory over Wallin following the fifth round due to a suspected broken nose.

They said: “We’re thrilled to announce that the audio issue has been resolved! .”

As well as Joshua’s win, tonight’s “Day of Reckoning” event also saw Joseph Parker go the distance and take a decision victory over Deontay Wilder.

This result scuppered a potential £100million showdown between AJ and the Bronze Bomber, which left Eddie Hearn needing to “vomit”.

Wilder shared one of the heavyweight division’s most classic

TYSON FURY was blamed for ruining Deontay Wilder’s boxing career after he slipped to a shock points loss to Joseph Parker.

Wilder shared one of the heavyweight division’s most classic trilogies of all time with Fury.

Deontay Wilder slipped to a shock defeat to Joseph Parker[/caption]

But he was floored a total of five times over the three bouts, leaving the rivalry with a draw and two stoppage losses.

Wilder, 38, had just one round of boxing in 14 months before making his return against Parker, 31, in Saudi Arabia.

And his ring rust was laid bare after landing just 39 shots from the 204 the threw over 12 rounds with a 19.1 per cent accuracy.

And according to Compubox’s stats, Parker had a success rate of 34.9 per cent with 89 shots landed from the 255 he threw.

Wilder averaged 12 punches per round heading into the fight – on the night he averaged just three.

So there was no doubt of the verdict when the fight went to the judges scorecards.

It saw Wilder blow his NINE-FIGURE fight deal with Anthony Joshua, who had to pick himself up to face Otto Wallin just moments later.

Wilder’s lacklustre display and head scratching punch output had fans convinced Fury took the American’s best days away from him.

One said: “Tyson Fury ruined Wilder.”

One agreed: “Wilder is a tired boxer now, Tyson Fury took his SOUL.”
