2025 Northwest Michigan Orchard and Vineyard Show
January 14, 2025 - January 15, 2025

Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, 100 Grand Traverse Village Blvd, Acme, MI 49610

Contact: Jennifer Zelinski

Registration opens at 8 a.m. on Jan. 14 and the cost for both days is $50 in advance and $55 at the door. The line can be long at the registration desk, so meeting attendees are encouraged to arrive well before the 9 a.m. start time or register online. Both days will feature educational programs and vendor exhibits.

One registration (tree fruit or grape session) will give attendees access to both the tree fruit sessions and grape sessions for both days.

The fruit industry luncheon will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, and is open to both tree fruit and grape registrants at a first come, first serve basis.

There will be two separate lunches on Wednesday, Jan. 15. One room will hold the grape industry luncheon and the other will hold the Cherry Marketing Institute luncheon.

The Cherry Marketing Institute annual meeting and luncheon will be Wednesday, Jan. 15. Wednesday’s Cherry Marketing Institute luncheon is free to cherry growers if they pre-register through the Northwest Michigan Orchard and Vineyard Show online registration. If growers do not have access to a computer, please contact the Cherry Marketing Institute at 517-669-4264 to register for the lunch.

The exhibit hall will be open during the show to feature vendors of orchard and vineyard equipment and supplies, commodity organizations and other exhibitors.

Both Tuesday and Wednesday will offer a variety of topics relating to research and information on tart cherries, sweet cherries, apples and wine grapes addressing production and marketing. Cherry, apple and grape sessions will be held on both days. Tuesday’s sessions will conclude with a social hour, and all attendees are invited to attend; the social hour is included with the registration fee.

The program is presented by the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Foundation in collaboration with Michigan State University Extension and AgBioResearch, Cherry Marketing Institute, Parallel 45, Michigan Wine Collaborative and the MSU Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center.

No Test...Not this time around.
We still hold out hope for next year! But NO TEST at this event (Friday Feb 7).
There are lots and lots of online and in-person testing dates and locations if you or someone you know needs to take the test - renewing an expired license or getting a license for the first time.

Still lots of time to do Your Orchard Row-Middles for Dandelion-Control...Lots of Good Reasons to Not have the Fruit-Tree-Bloom Competition..My primary Reason is to not have Pollinators hangn round the Dandys when I do ButtKicknNukeRoids at Early 'Pink' and Petal Fall.
And....
For Your Fall W**d Control in that Orchard In-Row-W**d-Control-Strip..??... Be sure to look closely at Mesotrione 4SC...Use 6 oz.-Treated-Acre... Look at how Xtreeeeene-Low-Co$t it is... It's like $1-oz... Thats like $2-per-Orchard-Acre... Its a Generic Callisto. Be sure to do that 6 oz-ac again in Late May-Early June..Around 1st Cover with your W**dControl 'Touch-Up' ... If you do another TouchUp later...Do 3 oz-Ac. Mesotrione...
Almost All other Residual-Herbicides are 2x-3x-4x more Co$t. I like to pick 2 or 3 of those others...the 'Lower' Cost of the Choices, and TankMix the very Lowest-Rate Recommended....Like Diuron .. Simazine... Or, if those Ol'Timer Chemistries aren't doin it..??..Consider 3 Pts-Ac. Goal[gn]...or 4 pts-Ac Prowl.H2O[gn] ...
Some Guys dont think the Very Lowest Rate of the Ol'Diuron-Simazine Herbicides are doin anything...So they leave them out... But then after acupla seasons of Not Touching-Up those Herbicides, they find out those Low-Maintenace Rates were indeed doin somethin...
But I get it ...Even those Lowest Rates are like $15-Treated-Acre...

Those Sweet Cherry Trees InterPlanted in the AppleBlock east of our House..??.. Still Lush-Dark-Green-Beautiful from Top-to-Bottom... Same for the Tarts...And..They only ever get whatever is in the Tank for the Apple-Cover-Sprays...That includes Alot of CS2005 TankMixed with alot of other Tank-Partners...Alot... Some SoCalledConsultants try to Blame CS2005 for some Phyto on Cherries sometimes...??.. The fact is ...that the JunkGradeLowQualityNutrition they put in the Tank with the "005" is the actual Phyto-Causing-Problem.
But...
You likely already did a Post-Harvest App on Sweets for Bacterial Canker.. 1 qt-Ac-CS2005 -plus- 2 qt-Ac. Chlorthalonil[Bravo/Echo]..??...
If I had a serious Disease Issue in a Sweets Block...Id be doin that again.
And....
Peaches... Same Mix...
Tarts ... Same Mix...
It is a Huuuuuuge Deal to get at least 100% Coverage for Leaf Spot..Especially hitting the TreeTops... Lookn at some TartCherry Blocks up North ..??...Some SprayRigs need adjustments...
And...Dont hesitate to add in 3-4 Lbs-Ac. Ziram if you have any on the Shelf..??... Even if you dont..??.. If you have serious Disease Issues..It sure seems to help.

I always Check the Spill-Mitigation-Stuff... Replenishing what needs it...
I check the Emergency Numbers-Call List to be sure it is All still Current-Accurate...and Legible...Making sure I didnt slop it up somehow...
This List for All the *Medical facilities.. *Fire Dept.. *Critical Operation-Key-People....
This List should also be Inside And Outside of the Spray Building...and in all the Tractor Cabs...and all the Farm Trucks & Vehicles...
And...
I always want my Herbicide Products in their own Place...far away from all other Pesticides... There are several Products Today that the Packaging looks very Veeerrrry similar to a totally different Chemistry... There has been some serious HorrorStories in the Past... Example: When I was a Kid there was a Paraquat and a Parathion from the same Manufacturer..the Cartons looked Identical... So...one of my Fave Grower Pals' Son used Paraquat in a Apple Foliar... Pure Ugliness...
I also keep all the PGRs in their own Corner... Insecticides separate from Fungicides ...and All separate from Nutritions... Etc...
Make sure All Products are in Original or Properly Labeled Containers... Remember when a Neighbor of mine had a Brown Lawn in the month of May..??.. It wasnt Drought... It came from Glyphosate in a UnMarked Jug....He thot is was DadelionKiller...

Low-Weather-Pressures..??..Lower Rates...
They reaped Multi-Benefits with this Strategy as these Products make up a Combo of 4 Bactericides.. 4 Fungicides.. 1 Insecticide.. Some 'P' & 'K' .. a touch of 'N' & SeaW**d & Zn... I use the Indicate 5 & InSpray 90 to help all the Tank-Mix-Products Play Nice Together...and to help Pe*****te the TopSoil... I use up only those Xtreeeeme-Low-Co$t Pesticides... Some of those that are $2 - Acre I may Lean-Into the Rate a Bit... I make Official Recordings precise 'By the Book'...
If I have a kinda stiff breeze, I use a Drift-Control product...I dont get any 2,4-D on my High-Investment stuff...
Im Lookn at my Soil Analysis... Maybe Im adding more LowCost Nutritions to the Tank....
Sooo....Have You ever Priced the Deer-Fencing Option..??..
A Few Years back I looked at what some Guys were Spending on the Various Sprays we use to Repel Deer...and we all know what some of the other Labor-Intensive-Cultural-Practices end-up Co$ting...It is Co$t-Prohibitive... There are Dozens of Reeeaaally Sharp-Pencil Apple Guys that have installed the DeerFence.
They tell me that when the Deer get a taste of the New Young Trees... They will definitely keep coming to get more..like UnStoppable...
And ....when Deer really chew on a New Youngn...that little feller will never reach a serious Full-Crop-Load ...

Wow.... HeatWave is Upon Us... Supposed to be Weather like Early August for a Week-10 Days or so..??... Lookn at the WunderGround-10-DayForeCast.... All 80*Fs...Some Days close to 90*F. veerrrrry UnWanted Heat for Any-All Fruit Crops. .... And...EveryDay SunShine...
Serious Summer.... I think even my GrandBeautyBabyBlessings are 'Done With It' ...

Lots & Lots of Blues Pals finished up a somewhat abusive 'Heat' Year....
Blues don't like alot of Heat either...really causes problems...Especially at Harvest ..Soft Fruit-Etc....
Many Apple Grower Pals did very well with the WAA Control... Not Most...but Many...
It seems where they used Diazinon all of it was easier..?.. But...Some Processors will not take that Fruit...
Soooo.....This Winter...Dormant Pruning... Open-Up that Canopy..Coverage is well over 100% of the Keys-to-Success over WAAs with these New-BigCost-Insecticides.
And...
Some Guys tried 'Oil' again...Not too impressive... Quite UnImpressive in multiple ways...
It's critical to have all the right stuff in the Mix at Pink & PetalFall...Early May-2025...
The 'Right Stuff' includes some Veeerrrry Low-Co$t-Cheap-NukeRoids.
And...As Ya'll know...Imidacloprid is a very serious Fave of mine...because it does SoooooooMuch for $ooooooLittle....at Full-Foliar-Rate-3.2 oz.Ac.=$2.20 ....
But.. Many Guys do this fave 'Acronyx4F as a Soil-Appln.... at the 8 - 12 oz-Ac-Rate...??...Which leaves only like 13 oz.-Ac. to use for Foliars...???..Due to the Max-Season-Limit.
Again...I love Imidacloprid...Max it out every Year...Start Early... 5 Applns @ 3.2 oz-Ac....All my 'Blow-By' hits the Dirt..Lots of Blow-By in the Early Season..Alot...
And...Also...
Be sure to Dial This In.... When-If we do a Soil-Appln Imidacloprid"Acronyx"... We are directing that 8 oz-Ac-to the W**dControlStrip...which is normally apprx 1/3 of the Orchard Floor....So.... Technically...Im doin only 2.66 oz.Acronyx per Orchard Acre. Make sure your Auditor understands that.
And...
Keepn the ArVida30SG[gnAssail] in the Tank is a very serious Help in Fighting the Woolies...
.... Pleeeeeeze Keep this in Mind...for Pink-Appln...Please Ponder this... for Petal-Fall-Tank-Mixing ... Especially if you have not yet been successful in your attempts to Tank-Mix Multiple Products that you would really like to...
When we do the proper Tank-Mix with our Sequestering+pH.Reducing 'Indicate 5' ...and our 90-10-NIS 'InSpray 90'...We can add In our Fave Insecticides.. Fungicides.. Bactericides.. Miticides.. Nutritions including Micros.. PGRs.. BioStims...More....We can do the ORO.Agri'Orange-Oil' Products... We can do 12-14 different Products and they all work Synergistically to get the Job Done. We do this very successfully in nearly every Trip... We do this easily in 35 - 50 GWA.
Proper Tank-Mixing is seriously an 'Art-Form' ...
