Should I share this? ๐ค
We sat down with our Editor in Chief, Annika Bergen, to talk through a question many authors have when writing their books.
Here are three filters she uses:
1. The "why" test: If you're writing primarily to process something or get it off your chest, it might be worth waiting. But if you're writing because you've come through something and want to help others navigate a similar path, that's often the right time.
2. The "unexpected reader" test: How would you feel if your mechanic read this? Your mother-in-law? A future colleague? If imagining certain people reading it makes you hesitate, that's worth paying attention to.
3. The "legal and professional risk" test: Are you still working for the boss you're writing about? Could sharing this damage current relationships or undermine your credibility? If the answer is yes, it might mean waiting for the right timing, changing identifying details, or asking permission from the people involved.
