The fittest and trimmest contestants compete in three events: swimming, biking and running. Starting by Kona's Kailua Pier, competitors swim the open ocean for 2.4 miles. After swimming, athletes bike 112 miles north along the Kona coast to Hawi, a small village. Looping back, competitors then bike to King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.
