Missouri Southern KGCS - TV KGCS is the television station at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. Thousands of students have gone through the program in the past 37 years.

The station that started as a cable-access channel in Joplin in 1984 and has grown to a digital broadcast station serving more than 167,000 households in the region. Throughout the years, our mission has remained the same – providing valuable hands-on opportunities for Southern broadcast students and serving as an outreach with programming for the Joplin region.

Ted Easley, a former exalted rule and a current board member, discusses the Elks legacy in Joplin and how the organization is structured. Member Nancy Bettasso, who chaired the recent Christmas Food and Toy Basket drive, discusses how the Elks serve hundreds of children and families each year as well as veterans. Derryl and his band are known for their h***y tonk songs with evangelistic energy and have performed all over the country for 20 years, while being based in Texas. KGCS has served Missouri Southern State University and the Joplin community since 1984. The station that started as a cable-access channel in Joplin in 1984 has grown to a digital broadcast station serving more than 167,000 households in the region. Throughout the years, our mission has remained the same – providing valuable hands-on opportunities for Southern broadcast students and serving as an outreach with programming for the Joplin region. Hundreds of students have gone through the program in the past 30+ years. This page helps share some of those memories, uniting alumni with current students, faculty, and staff.
