It's May 22nd again. A day so meaningful to the Joplin community. A day for remembering and mourning. A day for hope. A day to be proud of all we've overcome. A day to support other communities recovering from disasters.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by natural disasters, especially those communities impacted by tornadoes this storm season, like Greenfield Iowa just yesterday.

We know all too well their pain and challenges.

After 13 years, Joplin continues to heal and recover from our own major storm.

We saw incredible resiliency among the people of our community and continue to be amazed by the support we receive, helping us rebuild and thrive.

We are stronger because of the support of our citizens and those walking alongside us. We look at a map which represents those across the country who came to help us in our time of need and are filled with gratitude.

Today and always, we are thinking and praying for those suffering losses and rebuilding. We want you to know there is a better future ahead.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower was a famous, five-star general who became synonymous with the defeat of Germany in World War II.
