HAPPENING NOW: Large police presence in Frayser on Mountain Terrace. The MPD Mobile Command Center just arrived. A neighbor told me they saw a car chase stop on this street, people jumped out a white car, police started a foot chase and then they heard a gunshot.

My folks coming from Arkansas!! ‼️‼️ The I-55 bridge will be closed for TWO weeks. Take I-40 and drive safe!

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews will be closing the I-55 Mississippi River Bridge for two weeks to continue construction activities on the I-55 and Crump interchange. During the two-week closure, crews will hydro-demolition the bridge deck and provide a new polymer concrete overlay. The polymer-modified concrete has strict temperature restrictions. All work is weather-dependent. The upcoming closure is the first of two allowed in the contract.

Sunday, June 9, 8:00 pm through Sunday, June 23, 8:00 pm
- I-55 SB will be closed at Bridgeport Road in Arkansas
- I-55 NB will be closed at South Parkway* in Tennessee
*Local traffic will be allowed to continue to the McLemore exit
- I-55 SB ramp will be closed
- Crump Boulevard WB will be closed
A detour will be posted.

A tax increase is expected to be announced tonight.

Traffic is backed up and stopped on I-40 West in Memphis. So take a different route. Traffic probably won’t be moving for a while

UPDATE — Memphis police have now shut down all lanes on I-40 Westbound as they work to clear the scene of a fatal crash near Jackson Avenue.

UPDATE: According to MPD, the officer who was shot is now recovering at Regional One after surgery.

The suspect accused is 22-year-old Geronimo Kee.

He's in custody and was found in North Memphis. Police say his vehicle was found just a mile away from the incident.

Here is video of the car described by police being towed just 5 minutes away from the original scene on I-240.

Speaking of I-240. Police say southbound lanes are back OPEN.

#ICYMI: Dozens of people marched onto the Hernando Desoto Bridge in Memphis Saturday calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. I watched the entire protest unfold from downtown Memphis to the bridge. This protest caused traffic delays for hours as the I-40 bridge was the only way over the Mississippi River into Memphis Saturday afternoon. The I-55 bridge was closed for maintenance. Officers were able to talk with protestors to get them off the bridge by 5:00. No arrests were made. The I-55 bridge opened later in the evening, because maintenance finished earlier than expected according to TDOT. #watch #memphis #news

A family is mourning and neighbors are shocked after a vehicle drove into a Frayser home Saturday night. A woman inside the home died. I spoke with a neighbor who said this is devastating. Hear more from her tonight on Action News 5 Memphis Police said the driver left the scene after crashing into the home.

Tonight I share more about this story and what I’ve learned today. Police say the shootings Saturday night were the result of domestic violence. The executive director of YWCA says they are seeing more women fleeing domestic violence situations.
