Parents of students in Johnson City Schools and Washington County Schools: Your children are being dismissed early today due to the potential for severe weather.

From the city:

Due to the threat of incoming dangerous weather, Johnson City Schools will have an early dismissal on Monday, August 7. The middle schools and high schools will release at 12:45 p.m., while the elementary schools will release at 1:10 p.m. If parents are able to pick up their students, we encourage them to do so. All afterschool activities are canceled, Educares will remain open.

Good morning! A quick heads up for anyone planning to travel on South Roan Street this week:

The Johnson City Public Works Department will close one portion of South Roan Street between West State of Franklin Road and West Walnut Street for sidewalk maintenance and conduit installation beginning Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 7 a.m.

Additionally, sidewalk and curb improvements on South Roan Street between West Walnut Street and East Highland Road will cause intermittent lane closures.

Flaggers will be present to instruct motorists. Some sidewalk areas will be impassable.

These projects are expected to be complete by Aug. 11 at 4 p.m.

Motorists should expect delays, use caution in the construction zone, and observe posted speed limits for their safety and the safety of workers.

“TVA has lifted its rolling blackout mandate. All BrightRidge service distribution system restoration efforts continue. BrightRidge has called in additional contracted personnel to assist in restoring remaining outages.”

Attention BrightRidge customers: Expect brief rolling blackouts today.

Here’s the full release:

BrightRidge is implementing 15-minute rolling blackouts system-wide as mandated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, which generates power sold by BrightRidge. These temporary outages will continue until further notice. BrightRidge will provide further updates as provided by TVA. Meanwhile, restoration work on the BrightRidge distribution grid will continue utnil all damage has been repaired.
