When patients with traumatic brain injury are treated in a medical setting following an event that results in a TBI, medical professionals typically label their injury as being mild, moderate, or severe. CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control has proven resources that older adults, their caregivers, healthcare providers, and health departments can use to reduce falls risk. See CDC's map showing self-reported older adult falls and fall deaths with the most recent (2020/21) data.

After suffering a career-ending concussion, raising awareness and advocating for concussion research in women’s sports has been one of the biggest focuses of my life after soccer.

Thank you Nikki Battiste and John Dickerson for shining a light on such an important issue that has not only impacted me, but so many other athletes.

Brain injury is sometimes, but certainly not always, invisible. If you had one thing to tell someone about what life is like with a brain injury, what would it be?

Had the pleasure of meeting Briana who participated on a Congressional Briefing panel on women and brain injury. She has a powerful story and has been very gracious in sharing and promoting education on concussions.

For this week's episode I had the honor of talking with USWNT soccer legend, World Champion, Olympic Gold winning goalie, Briana Scurry about her and journey with consequences.

Then I speak with Dr. Michael Jaffee about concussion symptoms, treatment and outlook.

Just got a very pleasant email from the Editor-in-Chief at EP Magazine asking me to approve the final layout of my upcoming article. I gave it a resounding green light.

The article hits pages 26 and 27 of next month's issue, placing me right where we belong - right in the middle of things.

My own unplanned for role as a Publisher means that I understand all the stress that comes along with all involved in developing layouts, working with writers, and dealing with deadlines that seem to come faster with every issue. As such, no one ever has to ask me twice for most anything - making me an Editor's dream. :-)

I again marvel at life. Never did I imagine in any reality that I would grow up to be a disability advocate - yet here we are.

Peace,

~David
