Apologies for not getting last week’s episode up, but sadly my mom passed away. I’m hoping she and my dad have found each other by now since he hasn’t been gone that long either. This photo was from 1993 (bad year for eye glass styles!) and they loved every single place I took them in bel’italia. I don’t normally share personal things on here but so many people (devoted listeners!) asked why we missed an episode… and since my parents were so impressed that our podcast is listened to in 131 countries, I will finish with Arrivaderci Billie and Frankie ❤️

Hello, fellow travel enthusiasts! I’m Kimberly, your guide on this delightful journey through Italy. After days of relentless rain, the sun finally graced us with its presence in Lago di Garda, Italy, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The perfect weather set the stage for a day filled with exploration, good food, and a touch of historical wonder.

First, let’s touch on something we recently discussed on the “Kimberly’s Italy” podcast. With the surge of AI-generated travel articles, it’s more crucial than ever to approach online information with a discerning eye. I recently stumbled upon an article about Newport, Rhode Island, riddled with inaccuracies. It was a stark reminder that while technology is a fantastic tool, nothing beats human insight and firsthand experience.

Shifting our focus back to the enchanting Lago di Garda, the high demand for travel means planning ahead is essential. For my birthday, we decided on a road trip to the picturesque town of Sirmione. Our journey began with a scenic ferry ride from Desenzano, offering stunning views that set a magical tone for the day.

Our first stop was the historic Castello Scaligero, a medieval fortress that stands as a testament to Italy’s rich architectural heritage. Although we opted not to endure the long lines to explore it thoroughly, we marveled at its grandeur from the outside, appreciating its intricate restoration.

Lunch was a highlight, and we had chosen our restaurant with care, thanks to meticulous research. Nestled in a charming corner of Sirmione, the restaurant offered a serene ambiance perfect for a birthday celebration. The personable waiter recommended the burrata and tomato salad, followed by a mouthwatering pizza. But the star of the meal was undoubtedly the gin and tonics made with Tassoni tonic water, a local delight that added a unique twist to our drinks.

After our delightful meal, we ventured to Grotto di Catullo, the ruins of a grand Roman villa. Despite its dilapidated state, the site’s historical significance and panoramic views were awe-inspiring. The paths were well-organized, with informative signs that enriched our understanding of the villa’s past.

Navigating through the charming village streets, we stumbled upon a villa that looked like a luxurious hotel. The ambiance of Sirmione was captivating, blending historical charm with modern-day elegance.

One humorous moment involved the classic travel challenge of finding restrooms, a small hiccup in an otherwise perfect day. Practical tips from this adventure include visiting architectural sites early to avoid crowds, indulging in local cuisine, and enjoying ferry rides for unique perspectives of the landscape.

As the sun set, we reflected on a day well spent—exploring ruins, admiring castles, and savoring delicious food and drinks. It was the perfect birthday in Sirmione, and I can’t wait to share our next road trip destination with you all. Until then, keep exploring and savoring the beauty of travel!

Ciao, Kimberly

Exploring the Aftermath of Italian Adventures on Kimberly's Italy Podcast

In the latest episode of Kimberly's Italy, hosts Kimberly Holcomb and Tommaso unpack their recent journey to Italy, discussing the concept of post-travel stress disorder humorously coined by a listener. The duo reflects on the mixed emotions that come with returning from a trip, from the comfort of one's own bed to the longing for the Italian lifestyle.

The hosts share anecdotes from their Venetian escapades, including their stay in a quaint apartment away from the tourist hustle. They recount a humorous incident at a local grocery store, leading to a travel tip about navigating the Vaporetto ticket system in Venice.

Dining experiences form a significant part of the episode, with a detailed account of a delightful meal in the San Polo neighborhood. The hosts describe the dishes they savored, such as tuna tartar with pomegranate seeds and spaghetti with scallops, noting a surprising shift in their wine preference towards a white from Friuli.

The episode also takes listeners to the colorful island of Burano, famous for its brightly painted houses and lace-making heritage. Kimberly shares her appreciation for a painting by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo in the local church, while both hosts note the peculiar leaning bell towers scattered across Venice.

The episode concludes with a teaser about an upcoming mini-episode that will connect podcasting with an influential Italian figure born 150 years ago. The hosts promise to continue their tales of Italian culture and travel in the next installment, focusing on their lunch experience in Burano.

New episode dropped this morning. Have a listen! Tommaso’s first time in the Italian city of Parma was basically Prosciutto Paradiso! The city’s historic center is very charming, colorful, clean and full of well dressed, and well-fed Italians. We entered every salumeria, cheese shop and combinations of the two, all of which made us both want to live in this sweet little city.

The historic center is brimming with all kinds of culinary goods, but the Parma ham takes center stage. Who knew there are so many types of Prosciutto each with it’s own name and DOP label. The locals seem to take great pride in their city’s moniker of Citta di Gastronomia / The City of Gastronomy.

Hey everyone! 🎙️ I hope you're all doing well and staying safe. I just wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your incredible support over the past year. It's truly mind-blowing to see how this little podcast, produced from our little island, has reached listeners from all corners of the globe. From Australia to Canada, the United Kingdom to Estonia, and even new listeners in Poland, we are so grateful for your continued support.

I also want to mention that in the last 50 days since we moved to a new podcast host, we have reached an incredible milestone. Our show has been listened to in a staggering 3,314 cities across 92 countries! This is truly amazing, especially considering that it's the holiday season, which is historically a slower period for us. Your support means the world to us, and we can't thank you enough.

On another note, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who hired me last year to plan your trips to beautiful Italy. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know each and every one of you, even if we may never meet in person. I cherish the little mini friendships we've formed, and it brings me so much joy to see your photos and selfies from your trips. To those of you who have become repeat clients and have fallen in love with Italy, thank you for your trust and support. It means everything to me.

Now, let's dive into our latest episode! In this one, we'll be continuing our road trip from October, starting with our extraordinary evening in Florence. We'll be taking you on a journey through the private art opening in Palazzo Vecchio and the incredible dinner al fresco on the Arno River. It was truly an unforgettable experience, and I can't wait to share all the details with you.

But before we get started, I just want to give a special shout out to Tony Noto for leaving us a wonderful review on Apple Podcasts. We loved, loved, loved it! Grazie mille, Tony!

Lastly, I want to apologize in advance to all the art history enthusiasts out there. In this episode, we'll be discussing architecture, and I must confess that I may not pass a pop quiz on the topic. So, if you're an art history buff, please bear with me and forgive any elements that may have been left out.

Thank you once again for your incredible support, and I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures from our road trip in Italy. Buon ascolto! 🎧✨

Hey everyone! We just released our latest episode and it's a special one because it's our 99th episode! We're almost at 100 and we're so excited. In this episode, we talked about the region of Piedmont in Italy and why it's worth visiting. But there were a few other things we wanted to share with you as well. Here are three takeaways from this episode:

1. Give yourself plenty of time to plan your trip. We had a couple of new clients who were in a bit of a panic because they had too much information from TripAdvisor and other sources. If you're planning your trip on your own or hiring a travel planner, give yourself as much time as possible. The shorter notice you have, the harder it is to get the tours and accommodations you want.

2. It's important to learn how to pronounce Italian words correctly. We've been correcting each other's Italian pronunciations throughout the podcast, and in this episode, I finally got corrected for mispronouncing one of my favorite villages in Italy.....Varenna.

3. We're almost at our 100th episode, and we're planning a party for next week's episode. We're inviting all of our listeners to join us and celebrate by opening a bottle of wine or making your favorite Italian drink. We're so grateful for all of our listeners and can't wait to celebrate with you!

Thanks for tuning in to this episode, and we hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to subscribe to our podcast and leave us a review if you haven't already. See you next week for our 100th episode party!
