Do you remember November of 2024 in America? Do you remember the hopeful optimism, followed by the shock of horrid defeat, followed by both dread of and disbelief for the future that had us all on an existential rollarcoaster ride that looked to have no end? Jonathon Addington remembers, and in the poetry collection “No Stop November”, the Florida writer, artist and chef documents the tumultuous moon cycle in all its sordid detail. Through erose and abrupt free verse, Addington addresses the relentless barrage of issues flung at Americans on what seemed an hourly basis, including the zeitgeist’s racial turn, the “Your Body My Choice” trope, the ultimate role that financial greed played in the election, and the overall dire outlook that no less than demands a call to socio-political action. But unlike a traditional call to arms, the author here encourages the reader to turn inward for solutions, to see the basis for the connections that bind us all as countrymen and as citizens of the world, and to realize that the only true solutions will come when those connections serve as a conduit for even the most basic of common human dignity. Illuminated throughout with the author’s own artwork, “No Stop November” leaves the reader with both a precision snapshot of an American month that will not soon be forgotten, and an overwhelming sense of hope not unlike that which November 2024 kicked off with.
