The culmination of a decades’ worth of writing comes High Tide. Justin Paisley was extremely cautious to only write in a mental arena that was favorable to create a fictional story that feels so personal that it flirts with being a biography. A New Orleans native and Navy Veteran life has always been up and down but Paisley remains “Semper Gumby”. The idea of High tide came from the real life events of Hurricane Katrina. The book delves into the real life evacuation of a family from what we’ve come to know as the worst storm devastation in the United States. Emergency evacuations are still a thing and most people have never had to deal with them like the gulf coast has. The unknown of disaster and it’s effects are a daunting thought and can be the cause of anxiety and stress. The main character has always been dealt a bad hand and he is the best interpretation of “Just keep swimming”. He’s a sole provider for his younger siblings and embodies resilience so much that he eventually gets the winning hand of life. Just like after the storm there’s a rainbow, the same can be said for the rainbow. Problems can pop out of anywhere at any time. Family can sometimes be the problem but just like nothing in life is guaranteed neither is family. La’ron has has to build a new life and a new family all the while keeping a stabile environment for his sister and brother. High tide is written in short form so it’s an easy read that constantly keeps your attention. It’s raw, mature and relatable to all demographics.
