Can you feel your core and pelvic floor contract and relax during DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING?!🤔

Diaphragmatic breathing is one of the best exercises for your belly, pelvic floor, and body!🙌

It’s even more critical during pregnancy and during labor/delivery to help breathe your baby out!🤰🏼

What is the diaphragm? It’s dome-shaped muscle at the base of the lungs. It plays a vital role in breathing even if you aren’t always aware of it. Learning proper body mechanics for inhalation and exhalation is important for many bodily functions and improving overall health❤️

I love when clients/patients tell me all they do is diaphragmatic breathing and all their issues resolve (I wish it was that simple for everyone but some need more)… That’s why I created The Belly Whisperer® Method Online Program! PSA: STOP PUSHING WHEN YOU PEE🚫

I know it’s hard to resist “power p*eing” at work, at a concert, during a movie, at school, or while running late BUT it can lead to pelvic floor dysfunction and weakness⬇️⬇️⬇️

You should not be pushing, straining, holding your breath, or blowing your nose while trying to p*e. This can cause weakening of the pelvic floor muscles and result in organ prolapse, urinary leakage, urinary retention, hernia, and diastis recti⬇️⬇️

When you push or strain it causes the pressure in the abdominopelvic area to increase which can WEAKEN the pelvic floor muscles. The muscles can over stretch and lose their ability to support (like a hammock) so you won’t be able to hold in urine, p**p, or support your pelvic organs from falling out‼️

You don’t need to push and strain until all the urine is out. It’s normal to have some urine remaining in the bladder after you p*e✅

Stop trying to hurry up and squeeze every last drop out as quickly as possible. Don’t rush. Don’t push. Don’t even squat over the toilet if you can help it because it will only cause your pelvic floor to tighten and strain more❌

Your bladder and detrusor muscle do all the work and helps release or push your p*e for you. Your p*e will empty out naturally!✅

However, if you feel like you have the urge but can’t go or have difficulty emptying naturally then you should see a medical professional! Go see a physical therapist and have them evaluate and treat your symptoms!

It’s sad how many people and patients I meet that are just living with chronic pain or injuries that are treatable.

They either were told “there is nothing you can do” or believe that it’s been so long that there is no hope getting better.

Healing injuries and maintaining your health is a lifelong process and takes TIME!

Yes, even if you only have 5-15 min a day for yourself! (I stayed up an extra 30 min before bed last night stretching my pelvic floor because I know how much better I will feel in the morning even though I’m exhausted and just want to watch Netflix or sleep😴

I say this to my patients all the time that ask me, “Now that I’m better do I have to keep doing these exercises for the rest of my life?”🤔

Short answer: It depends⬇️

But typically for chronic or re-occurring injuries or issues…YES!✅

That does not mean you have to do the same exercises every day for the next 6 months, or 2 years, or 20+ years!

BUT you do until you can return to all your normal activities and workouts symptom free!✅

For most people that get help, you should start to recover within the first few months (depending on severity of situation) and then hopefully not need physical therapy for awhile or after another major life event, injury, or issue! ( For instance, child birth, car accident, fall, fracture, etc)🙌

The point is don’t wait to start healing because it will only get worse overtime.

Will today be the day you start putting your emotional, physical, and mental needs first to start healing?🙋‍♀️⬇️

I help people p**p, p*e, and have s*x for a living but…

I am also a first-time mom and 6 months postpartum (emergency c-section mama!) that has gone from working 7 days a week(2 jobs!) + starting her own business➡️to taking care of my baby girl 7 days a week and trying to figure out how to continue helping people through my business while taking a step back right now to be a mom…(why I’m posting at 10pm😅)

Did I mention that I struggled for years with abdominopelvic issues due to IBS, Ulcerative Colitis, gluten intolerance, and internal hemorrhoids?!💩

The silver lining is that it taught me a lot about abdominopelvic pain and symptoms that help me better understand my patients with chronic or acute abdominopelvic issues and helped me during and after my pregnancy (so I look at it as a blessing now🙏)

My mission as a pelvic, visceral, and orthopedic physical therapist is to help educate people about their body (especially the intimate parts!) and provide a safe environment to discuss and treat abdominopelvic issues at all ages✅

I provide resources and educational info to help people manage belly and pelvic pain for improved pregnancy, post-operative recovery, gut health, postpartum recovery, pelvic health, and s*x life✅

Foundational CORE & PELVIC FLOOR exercises (people think you have to do crazy advanced exercise but most people don’t need that!)✅✅✅

I do the same basic exercises from my programs every week so I can stay healthy to take care of my family and patients!⬇️

The whole point of my method and the reason I created it, was to have some thing that people and myself could use over and over again during their life❤️
