In 2005 in Mosul, Iraq we witnessed people dodging gunfire and death threats just because they were trying to vote. Their fingers were marked so they could not cheat and vote again, which also made them easy targets for terrorists.

Pictures of this compost pile don't effectively convey the massive amount of material being processed. I estimate there are about six full dump truck loads here, which will reduce in volume by about 1/3 by next spring when it's ready for screening and use.

Dried sunflowers are the best!

There's no doubt our neighbors think we are weird enough already. This morning I was dumping some food waste for the chickens and got distracted by a bald eagle, so I went to see what it was eating, which turned out to be a dead raccoon. One of my neighbors drove by as I'm gleefully walking towards it, still with bucket in hand. They probably think I was collecting a dead raccoon.

They love stuff we won't eat! If anyone knows of a large volume waste food stream, let us know!

Poultry farming in the heat and humidity is giving me Forest Whitaker eye.
