Camp McKenna is officially ONE WEEK away! The adult counselors are working endlessly to ensure that everything is prepared for the campers! We cannot wait to see everyone there! In addition to the daily necessities of your camper, be sure also pack these items: a flashlight, dark clothing for one of our night games, a water bottle, sweatshirts/pants for outdoor nightly activities, bug spray, and sunscreen for our daily activities. “Hello 2024 campers!! My name is Megan and I have been going to camp since I was a camper in 2016, so this will be my 8th year. While it might not be quite as long as the other counselors, I definitely call this place my second home. During camp, you will find me running around and helping in different areas because ‘Megan will do it.’ Mostly, I will be leading campfire with songs and activities. My favorite part of camp is seeing everyone come back year after year. I love Camp McKenna and I know you will too!! I can’t wait to spend a week with everyone!”

How long have you been going to camp? A long time, not exactly sure how long
What is your favorite camp memory? Getting the lifeguards drenched every time I would come down the slide.
What are you most excited for this year at camp? Eating 3 scrumptious meals a day, cookies, redneck water slide, and seeing old and new campers.
A note to possible new campers and old: Come to camp and have fun. Try new things.

How long have you been going to camp? A long time
What is your favorite camp memory? Watching the stars and looking for a shooting star at night. The full moon over our camp. Hearing the kids laughing and having fun.
What are you most excited for this year at camp? I don’t have to cook or clean for a whole week.
A note for campers to keep in mind: If you don’t try something you’re not going to know if you like it or not. Get involved and try new things!

“I have been going to camp Mckenna since 1997. I've helped with horses. My nickname is ‘Mold’. I am very supportive of the kids by joining in with swimming, water slide,(even if I am a crippled up Mamaw), trying to encourage them to try everything. I've been there through my own children, great nieces, and great nephews, my grand daughters, and many children that I've got to know through the years. Every year, it's always the highlight of my summer along with the kids. I probably enjoy it as much or more than they do.❤️”

“Hi! I’m Amy Volk, one of the adult counselors. I’ve been going to Camp McKenna since 2019. I lead the Cooking Class which includes much more than making snacks. I love exploring other cultures in our world and cooking unique dishes most of us never get to experience allows young minds to learn about this world. I also incorporate history, languages, and facts while campers learn basic cooking techniques.
My favorite memory of Camp McKenna is announcing the Best Bunk award. These kids took clean to a whole new level and I’m always so proud of how hard they worked together. I am looking forward to another wonderful year with wonderful people!”

MEET THE COUNSELORS OF CAMP MCKENNA:

“I've been attending Camp since before it was named after Fr. Jerome. I have helped with about every activity there is (except horses) I don't do horses. My main job for years and years has been kitchen duties, making lists of who does what and when, from sweeping/mopping, wiping tables to washing dishes and pots and pans (everyone's favorite). My favorite part of camp is watching all the counselors and campers having so much fun!! I love it!!”
