UPDATE: S.H. 183 and the access road have been reopened.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Only one eastbound lane of S.H. 183 is open, between the Central Drive and Industrial exits, this morning due to a fatality accident. In addition, the eastbound access road is shut down between Westpark Way and Industrial. However, all off ramps are open at this time.

This closure will last the next couple of hours (through morning rush hour traffic) while accident investigators and first responders are on-scene. This will cause major traffic delays so please avoid the area, if possible.

Westbound S.H. 183 is closed between Murphy and Central Drive for the next few hours due to a police incident that resulted in a multi-car crash. Officers now need to conduct an accident investigation. There were no major injuries. Drivers, please avoid the area if possible.

One woman is in custody after fleeing from Bedford Police this morning. Around 9:15 a.m., Bedford Officers were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle in the 1300 block of Harwood Road. Officers located the vehicle and saw the female suspect associated with the stolen vehicle. They attempted contact with the driver, but the suspect fled in the vehicle, striking a police car. The suspect continued to evade officers, driving into a parking lot where officers attempted to box the vehicle in after it had temporarily stopped. The officers exited their vehicles with the intention of taking the suspect into custody. The suspect began ramming the officers’ vehicles until the stolen vehicle was freed. She then accelerated and drove toward an officer who then fired three shots that struck the stolen vehicle as it drove toward them. The suspect then drove a short distance, where police continued to pursue her. The chase ended when the vehicle became disabled from its previous damages and the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers. Neither the suspect nor officers sustained significant injuries.

At this time, the female suspect has not been positively identified and the incident is still under investigation. During the incident The Bedford Center YMCA was placed on a brief lockdown until it was established there was no ongoing threat in the area. More information will be released about this incident, when available.

On this day, we think of these two families - both affected by tragedy on the same day, several years apart. We pray for comfort to surround them and for them to know we grieve with them. We also think of and pray for our team members who were affected by these tragic events.

Update - NEWS RELEASE
GRAPEVINE, TX-The Grapevine Police Department is investigating a deadly crash in the 4200 block of North SH-121 near Freeport Parkway. At approximately 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, the driver of a passenger van was traveling northbound in the far left lane when the van suddenly crossed all lanes of traffic and hit a bridge support to the right of the roadway.

The van caught fire and quickly became engulfed in flames. Witnesses attempted to pull the driver from the van but they were unsuccessful. The driver, who was the sole occupant in the van, was pronounced deceased on scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will make official identification pending notification to next of kin.

Northbound SH-121 was shut down temporarily as crews investigated the crash. Grapevine Police want to thank Grapevine Fire and Coppell Police for their work on this case, as well as all of the witnesses who stopped and tried to help after this accident.

Truck 101 on scene, reporting smoke visible from the attic and eaves of a 2 story apartment building on arrival, fire attack underway. Primary searches clear. Working fire declared. NEWS RELEASE
Keller Police responded at approximately 8:23 a.m. this morning to reports that a student at Keller ISD’s Compass Center fled from the campus’ security screening after an employee identified what they believed was a firearm in their backpack.

Patrol officers arrived on scene within one minute of the 911 call, located the suspect and took him into custody. Officers later found the firearm, which had been tossed during the brief foot chase.

This investigation is ongoing.

Please join us in thanking this incredible Keller ISD employee for their diligence. This morning’s incident is a testament to the district’s safety and security protocols.
