90.5 KSHU The Kat

This is the Official page from SHSU KSHU began broadcasting on October 7, 1973 with ten watts of power and at 89.3 megahertz.

KSHU operated out of the Peabody Building until 1985, when the new Communications Building was opened. On September 14, 1987, KSHU began operating at 90.5 megahertz with 3000 watts of power. KSHU has always offered an eclectic format. Since the coverage area for KSHU ranges anywhere from 20 to 30 miles in all directions, we cover most of Walker County and several surrounding counties. KSHU’s progr

amming reflects this coverage area in that the station serves more than just the student population at Sam Houston State University. KSHU schedules an eclectic mix of entertainment and information programming not found on local commercial radio stations.

ALONG THE I-35 CORRIDOR BETWEEN DALLAS, WACO, AUSTIN AND SAN ANTONIO, AND EXTENDING WEST TO ABILENE AND WICHITA FALLS. EAST OF I-45 AND SOUTH OF I-20 NEAR JACKSONVILLE, CENTER, LUFKIN, CROCKETT, HUNTSVILLE, CLEVELAND, KIRBYVILLE AND JASPER.

CRITICAL WILDFIRE THREAT

VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER IS EXPECTED IN THE IDENTIFIED AREAS. FORECAST CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WITH INCREASED WIND SPEEDS OF 15 MPH OR MORE AND
TRIPLE-DIGIT TEMPERATURES WILL ALIGN WITH VERY DRY GRASS VEGETATION THAT MAY
RESULT IN FIRES THAT ARE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL.

ROADSIDE STARTS ARE A MAJOR CAUSE OF WILDFIRES THIS SUMMER. AVOID PARKING, DRIVING OR IDLING IN DRY GRASS.

AVOID ANY OUTSIDE BURNING EVEN THOSE PROJECTS ALLOWED UNDER A BURN BAN.

« My name is Meury Moreno I’m from Houston,Tx. I am senior majoring in Mass communication with a concentration in multi platform journalism and a double minor in political science and Spanish. I host the Spanish station El Gato 90.5 on Tuesdays from 12-1pm and Friday’s from 7-8pm and the English station the Kat 90.5 on Thursday from 12-1pm. I plan to work at a Spanish or English station, being bilingual I hope to reach both of my communities as a on air radio host or anchor after graduating next year. »
