I'm back in Athens today following up with small businesses who have been hit hard these past two weeks by mother nature. First an EF-1 tornado caused businesses downtown to close their doors, then two weeks later a snow storm shut shops down again.

Day 3 in Athens covering the weather. Today it is cold and windy, but the roads are in better condition than we’ve seen over the past 24 hours. They are slick, some still have slush on them, but no reports of black ice have been made at this time.

And the snow coverage continues. Athens is looking a whole lot better than it did at 5A.M. today. Roads are clearing up, and the snow has stopped. Sleet and rain continue to be a problem for the roads so make sure to take your time if you're driving anywhere.

The snow is coming down in Athens and it's coming down hard. There's about 3 inches of snow on the ground right now meaning those roads are slick. If you have to get out, take it nice and slow and make sure to monitor those around you.

WE'RE AT A 'MAYBE' FOR SOUTHERN SNOW....NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is highlighting the possibility of snow somewhere across the southeast toward the end of next week. This is by no means an official forecast...only that there's a 'chance' based on current data trends.

The overall pattern set-up is one that often can produce wintry precipitation across the Deep South. An antecedent Arctic air mass will be in place all the way to the Gulf coast. We've been talking about that for several days now. It's pretty much a given that it's going to be COLD next week.

The other requirement is a storm system forming and tracking across the Gulf of Mexico. We are seeing indications that is in the works. There are no specifics though or guarantees....could be something or maybe nothing at all for any given location. Any wintry precipitation and where it falls will ultimately be determined by the strength and track of said low. We don't yet have high confidence in those details and won't for several more days.

For now it's a watch and wait game. Or as we say in the TV biz...stay tuned...

Our weather team has announced tomorrow (12/28) is a 31 Alert Day due to the potential threat of high winds, hail, and tornados. According to HPD, this year alone there have been 52 accidents with pedestrians in the Huntsville area. Of those accidents, 6 have been fatal.

This comes after several vehicle vs. pedestrian incidents have been reported in the Rocket City over the past few weeks.

SBI with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is now investigating this incident. They have yet to release the deceased suspect's identity.

Multiple law enforcement agencies and the Morgan County coroner are on the scene of a deputy-involved shooting.

Earlier today, Priceville Police attempted to stop a reported stolen vehicle. The vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit ended on Thompson Road near I-65 in Hartselle where an officer involved incident took place.

The driver of the vehicle being pursued by law enforcement was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

SBI (ALEA) was notified and responded. SBI will be handling the investigation from this point forward.

Huntsville Psychotherapy and Counseling Services says there is not one way that trauma shows up in a child's life.
