The LaFontaine Arts Council has been a long-time supporter of Arts in Education and the community here in Huntington County. What better way to support the arts then buy some greeting cards showcasing some of Huntington’s young budding artists?

The LaFontaine Arts Council (LAC) will be selling a limited set of greeting cards this holiday season featuring art from first and second grade students to raise funds to support Arts in Education and the Community. These sets will be available in select retail locations starting November 6, 2023.

The LAC, in partnership with the Mayor of Huntington’s Holiday Card contest, invited all Huntington County elementary 1st and 2nd grade students to submit holiday drawings this year. The LAC has chosen one winner from each grade from seven elementary schools to curate these 14-card sets, called “Hometown Huntington Greeting Cards.” These sets include envelopes and feature a message on the back of each card with the artist’s first name, grade, and school. Participating schools include Roanoke Elementary School, Horace Mann Elementary School, Andrews Elementary School, Flint Springs Elementary, Huntington Catholic School, Lincoln Elementary School, and Salamonie Elementary School. The greeting cards will be available for purchase at the following locations throughout the county for $25 per set:
JJ Java – 2840 Guilford St, Huntington

From the Mayor's Desk:

"It was an honor to participate in yesterday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Huntington VA Clinic, and I encourage our local veterans to consider utilizing its services. Located at 2859 Northpark Ave., Suite 110, it will start providing veterans health care services by the end of this month. This will be a difference-maker for veterans in our community who previously had to travel outside of Huntington for VA care. I would like to acknowledge Tim Eckert and his staff at the Huntington County Veterans Service Office, the Huntington County Board of Commissioners, VA Northern Indiana Health Care Systems and everyone who worked together to make the clinic a reality.

Next week’s walk-in Enrollment Fair at the Huntington VA Clinic will help veterans get signed up for care right away. To all veterans in and around Huntington, thank you for your service and the sacrifices you have made."

Huntington County has opted into the Health First Indiana Fund to bolster the core public health services our local Health Department provides every day.

"The Health First Indiana funding from the state is a real investment into the health of Huntington County. Our health outcomes are behind national averages which has real implications on quality of life, health care costs and the economic health of our county. The Health Department looks to be a leader in promoting health and partnering with the community to make that vision real for everyone in Huntington County,” Public Health Officer Dr. Matt Pflieger said.

A TORNADO WATCH has been issued for the entire area through 8 pm ET. This means conditions are favorable for tornado development, but not necessarily that they will occur.

We have not seen nearly the heating/clearing that was modeled, but there is still plenty of instability and storm initiation has already been observed across Northwest Indiana.

I plan on heading into the station for at least a couple of hours this afternoon/early evening until the front passes.

More updates to come!
