A fisherman who was fishing east of the Farallon Islands (just outside of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California) spotted a whale who was fully entangled and bound in a fishing net. The fisherman radioed for help and within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that the whale was so badly tangled that the only way to save her was to dive in, cut the ropes and untangle her…. a very dangerous proposition as one slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.
When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said that it was the most incredibly beautiful experience they had ever had.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the entire time and he will never be the same.
May you be so fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude. 🐳

80-year-old woman completes annual 600-mile trek with her pony and dog
Every year, Jane Dotchin packs her saddlebags and sets off on an epic journey from her home near Hexham, Northumberland, up to Inverness, Scotland.

Since 1972, Jane, 80, has been heading on this annual trip on her 13-year-old horse, Diamond, travelling 600 miles on horseback.

This time, she began her journey on August 31, with her disabled Jack Russell, Dinky, for company as she covers between 15 and 20 miles a day.

The trip sees Jane carrying everything she needs on her back, including her tent, food, and a few key belongings.

After that initial journey, she caught the taste for the open road, and travelled to visit friends near Fort Augustus, near Loch Ness, Highlands, every autumn since.

Her epic journey usually takes around seven weeks, depending on weather, and Jane uses it as a chance to pop in and say hi to people she has met over the years.

She sustains herself on porridge, oatcakes, and cheese, and doesn’t need much electricity as she has an old mobile phone with a battery that lasts six weeks.

At just twenty years old, she was a single mother, abandoned by the father of her only child, and struggling to make ends meet in America. One day, during her shift behind the counter, a young man approached and asked if he could "hide" behind the counter with her. He explained that he was an actor, and some journalists and patrons in the restaurant had recognized him. Feeling overwhelmed by the attention, as he was still adjusting to his newfound fame, he sought refuge.

Luciana, who had no idea who he was, replied with a smile, "You can hide here, but you'll need to help out!" So, the young man pitched in, preparing cocktails, serving customers, and washing dishes.

As they chatted throughout the evening, Luciana found herself drawn to the charming stranger. By the end of her shift, curiosity got the best of her, and she asked for his name.

"Matt Damon," he replied.

Michael Caine has been married to Guyanese actress and model Shakira Caine (previously Shakira Baksh) since 1973, and the way they met is straight out of a Hollywood showbiz rom-com.

Back in 1971, Shakira starred in a British commercial for Maxwell House coffee. Caine saw the commercial and thought she was "the most beautiful [woman] he had ever seen." Caine planned to actually fly to wherever she lived to meet her, but he found out she actually lived in London - and they had a mutual friend in the advertising business who was able to connect them.

Boston Brown Bread may date back to Colonial America, but eating it now hardly feels like dining with the Pilgrims. This steamed, molasses-laden comfort food comes in a can. You’ll need an opener to crack the lid off and thwack or jiggle out the dense roll of bread inside. For some New Englanders, especially in the Boston area and Portland, Maine, it’s a nostalgic childhood tradition.

The recipe calls for cornmeal mixed with molasses and rye and wheat flours. Traditionally, the mixture is then poured into a coffee can or small mold and steamed until it rises. The result? A bread as sweet and dense as cake. The legacy of the 17th century recipe has been carried on by companies like B&M (which also sell Boston baked beans). Locals don’t bat an eye when they have to search for canned bread among stewed peaches and kidney beans in the supermarket.

New Englanders serve canned bread several ways. Once extracted from its can, the bread can be sliced and served simply with butter, cream cheese, or jam. (B&M offers a plain version or one with raisins.) For a heartier meal, a Saturday night tradition involves pouring baked beans and chopped hot dogs over the bread. It’s a niche tradition, even within New England. But given the shelf life, it’s not surprising that canned bread has lasted this long.

La Tomatina is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Buñol (history) near to Valencia in Spain. Thousands upon thousands of people make their way from all corners of the world to fight in this 'World's Biggest Food Fight' where more than one hundred metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets.

Prior to 2013 anywhere from 40,000 to 50,000 (reported to be 50,000 in 2012) people crammed into this huge tomato fight, greatly expanding Bunol's normal 9,000 person population. Since 2013 official ticketing has been in place limiting the number of participants to 20,000 people.

"I was pulled over Wednesday morning by a TN State Trooper. When he came up to the car he asked 'Why are the two boys in the back seat not in car seats?' My answer was the two little boys were my foster sons who I had just got the night before. I showed him paper work and explained to him that when I got them they had the clothes they were wearing and that is about it. No carseat, no toys, no coats, and so on. He was very nice to the kids and to me. He asked me for my phone number. I gave it to him. His wife called me and asked about the boys. This morning Officer Tidwell met me in Waverly, him and his wife had purchased gifts for the boys. Not just the two boys in the back seat but, their older brother too.
I cannot thank him enough for the kindness he has shown these three boys. I never asked him for anything. He and his wife acted out of the kindness of their hearts. He showed these boys that there are very nice cops out there and I hope he has left a lasting impression on them that cops are good. The boys have been telling everyone that 'cops are nice.' He has made their day. You hear way too much negative stuff now days so, here is some good news for you all."

Down in Kissimmee, Florida, a dog was spotted lying on the side of the road. It had been hit by a car. Osceola County deputy Josh Fiorelli was passing by when he saw the injured animal. The female dog was alive but was hurt enough that it couldn't move. Josh was heartbroken that such a thing happened. So he called for help then sat down beside the white dog and started petting it. Some dogs might get defensive when they're hurt, but not this one. It seemed to welcome the officer being there for it. Josh then put his jacket over the dog to keep it warm, as the day was chilly and the dog was wet. Says Josh: “She didn't have anyone there, so I decided to be that person.” The dog was soon treated for a dislocated leg. Carlos Irizzary was walking his own dog when he came across Josh helping the injured dog, so he snapped a photo of it, and posted it online. It went viral, and it was shared by several news outlets throughout the country. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office also posted the photo on its website, saying: “...Thank you Deputy Fiorelli for serving with care and compassion.”

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington recently was faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day, the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are teachers, and then there are educators..

LOOK : THE WORLD'S FIRST BILLIONAIRE

John D. Rockfeller (July 8, 1839–May 23, 1937), the founder of Standard Oil, was once the richest man in the world. He was the world’s first billionaire.

"He amassed a net worth of at least $1 billion in 1916. When Rockefeller died in 1937, his net worth was estimated to be approximately $340 billion in today's dollars."

By the age of 25, he had one of the largest oil refineries in the United States. He was 31 when he became the world's largest oil refiner. At 38, he controlled 90% of the oil refined in the United States. At fifty, John was America's richest man. As a young man, every action, attitude, and connection was crafted to establish his wealth.

But at the age of 53, he fell unwell. His entire body became wracked with pain, and he lost all his hair. In total anguish, the world's lone millionaire could buy anything he wanted but could only eat soup and crackers.

According to an associate, "He couldn't sleep, wouldn't smile, and nothing in life meant anything to him". His personal, highly trained physicians indicated that he would die within the year. That year passed painfully slowly. As he approached death, he awoke one morning with the faint understanding that he would not be able to bring any of his fortune with him to the next world.

The man who could dominate the commercial world suddenly realised he had no control over his personal life. He informed his solicitors, accountants, and management that he intended to devote his assets to hospitals, research, and charity work. John D. Rockefeller started his foundation.

The Rockefeller Foundation financed Howard Florey and his colleague Norman Heatley's penicillin research in 1941. But arguably the most astounding aspect of Rockefeller's narrative is that when he began to give back a fraction of all he had gained, his body's chemistry changed dramatically, and he recovered.

He was expected to die at the age of 53, but he survived to reach 98 years old. Rockefeller learnt gratitude and returned the great bulk of his money. This made him whole. It's one thing to be healed. It is another to become fit. He was a devout Baptist who attended the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.

Before he died, he wrote in his diary: "God taught me that everything belongs to Him, and I am merely a conduit to carry out His will. My life has been one long, happy holiday since then; full of work and play, I let go of my worries along the road, and God was wonderful to me every day.
