Ethiopian Inventor, Heman Bekele, 15, Named TIME’s Kid Of The Year For Cancer-Fighting Soap.

At just 15 years old, Heman Bekele has already made a profound impact in the world of science, earning him the title of TIME’s 2024 Kid of the Year.

Driven by a passion for innovation and a deep concern for public health, Heman’s groundbreaking work on a skin cancer-treating soap has captured global attention.

Heman’s inspiration for tackling skin cancer began during his childhood in Ethiopia, where he observed the harsh realities of people working long hours under the intense sun. When he moved to the United States, he became acutely aware of the dangers posed by prolonged exposure to UV radiation. This realization fueled his desire to create an accessible and affordable solution to combat skin cancer, a disease that often requires expensive treatment options.

Nigerian owned Waza comes out of stealth with $8M to power global trade for African businesses.

Emerging economies face trade deficits that cause demand for the dollar, which dominates global trade to exceed supply. This imbalance raises costs and delays trade. In Africa, the problem is exacerbated by the shortage of tech solutions addressing the liquidity needs of large enterprises and multinationals, with many cross-border payment platforms opting to build consumer-facing products.

Enter Waza, a Y Combinator-backed payment and liquidity platform that is emerging from stealth with $8 million in seed money. The startup claims to make it easier for African businesses and traders to manage and pay their suppliers globally. It says it’s targeting a $7 trillion market with the potential to generate $250 billion in revenue.

African-American 6-year-old lands major brand deal with restaurant chain Chipotle after TikTok video.

Natural Gas, The Right Transition Fuel For South Africa.

A recent policy brief, “Natural Gas as a Transition Fuel in South Africa,” produced by Eye for Business, minced no words concerning the need to access and use that plentiful underground resource.

As stated up front, “Among alternatives, there is a compelling case for investing in natural gas as the most prudent steppingstone to a low-carbon future of power generation.”

In their brief, commissioned by The EnerGeo Alliance — a global trade alliance for the energy geoscience industry — Eye for Business makes a good point.

South Africa’s continuing power deficits make the case anew each day for expanded extraction and use of the country’s natural gas. A significantly lower-carbon alternative to coal and diesel, this fuel can provide electricity for growing needs while paving the way for renewables and an increasingly lower-carbon future.

He went on to become the only Black person on the Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest Americans when he first appeared on the list in 1991 with a $340 million fortune, according to Forbes.

Following in the footsteps of her dad, Lewis just founded Beatrice Advisors, a multifamily office and the first business of its kind by a Black woman. She is launching the company with a portion of her assets from her private family office called BFO21 and other high-net-worth families largely from her network.

The significance of locally processing agricultural raw materials for fostering economic growth in Africa..

Africa, abundant in natural resources, is often celebrated as the continent of the future. However, realizing its full potential requires a significant transformation in resource utilization.

As an entrepreneur in the agricultural sector, I have witnessed the transformative effects of locally processing raw materials like cocoa beans, cashew nuts, and mangoes. This experience has demonstrated that local processing is vital for economic growth, community empowerment, and sustainable development.

Local processing of agricultural raw materials entails converting raw produce into finished or semi-finished goods within the country of origin. This method can significantly enhance economic value.
