Deyès, meaning “Goddess” in Kreyol, embodies a poetic spirit that resonates deeply with the soul. Graduating with a degree in publishing from Indian River State College at the age of 17, Melissa Etienne’s early life was steeped in the arts. Her passion for writing was kindled as she watched her mother create radio shows and music, weaving stories that touched hearts.
A true multidisciplinary artist, Melissa has graced the stage as a Haitian thespian, lifted her voice in song since the age of six, and mastered the intricacies of classical music and songwriting from the age of 12. Her soul was awakened to the power of poetry in 2009 at Black on Black Rhyme in Tampa, FL.
Melissa’s journey is deeply rooted in her heritage, born to a theologian mother, Bernadette Abeielle from Jérémie, Haiti, and a herbalist father. Her cultural tapestry is woven with rich traditions and spirituality. While her love for American literature blossomed in 2005, her true calling lies in exploring the depths of spirituality and unveiling the mysteries of Haitian folklore.
Her words transcend mere art, becoming a reflection of her profound and sacred heritage. Melissa is the author of “Poems of Solace,” a guide and healer as a postpartum doula, the creator of Etienne Love Skincare, and a loctician, each role a testament to her nurturing spirit and divine inspiration.
