FEATURING THE BLACK EXCELLENCE OF: Dr. Cynthia J. Hickman, Author & Advocate

Dr. Cynthia Jean Hickman is a 2013 retired St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital (SLEH) registered nurse in Houston, Texas. She retired after becoming a full-time caregiver to her elderly mother.
Dr. Cynthia J. Hickman is Your Proactive Caregiver Advocate and author of From the Lens of Daughter, Nurse, and Caregiver: A Journey of Duty and Honor, sharing her 20-year journey of caring for her mother. Her 2nd book was released In 2021: The Black Book of Important Information for Caregivers. It details the necessity of mindfulness of the business side of being a caregiver.

Dr. Hickman has completed two degrees: a Master of Nursing specializing in education (2009) and her Ph.D. in Health Services with a leadership specialization (2016) from Walden University. Undergraduate degrees were from Prairie View A & M University, the College of Nursing, and The Toledo Hospital School of Nursing.
Dr. Hickman is a proud Soror of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., part of the Outstanding Ominocan Gamma Zeta Chapter. She is also Chair of the Chi Eta Phi Chapter, MiddleSouth Region(MSR), Health Advocacy and Social Policy(HASP), and represents MSR on the National HASP Committee. Dr. Hickman is Vice President of the Multicultural & International Student Organization and Ambassador Alumni at Walden University. She is the past Vice President(2022) of Prairie View A & M University College of Nursing Alumni Chapter.
Dr. Hickman was the 66th Winter commencement speaker for Walden University. She speaks locally and nationally, sharing powerful stories of the importance of nursing research, evidence, and caregiving resilience. She has become a storyteller, passionate about sharing caregiving tips and strategies to help others navigate life challenges while celebrating reality successes. She has the privilege of writing for the Forward Times Newspaper, a Black-owned Houston-based newspaper sharing caregiving tips and strategies.
Dr. Hickman is the Founder of the annual Socks 4 Senior Community Project in Missouri City, Texas that started in 2021. The project has yielded over 400 pairs of socks each year that have been donated to nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the Missouri City area.

The LIT Java 2nd Annual Literary and Vendor Fair in Pearland owes me NOTHING.

The support, the Network, the Curation was absolutely amazing!!!

Thanks to one of my babies I tutor and her mom for coming out, thanks to everyone who bought a book or two, thanks to Angie & Dewana for creating this space, and thanks to "My Man" for always showing up despite his busy schedule and being in my corner.

I was so blessed by the different Authors. I bought soooo many books.

The new partnerships that were formed, we are destined to make huge impacts in the near future.

And, being able to give out about 50 free books to children who attended and donating to Depelchin for children in foster care, my heart ❤️❤️❤️.
