Sunday Update: 6:15 pm

That ice is getting heavy.
According to units on patrol, trees are beginning to fall, particularly in the north end of the county.
This can cause road closures, downed power lines and other dangerous travel conditions.
If you can, the best thing to do is head on home for the night.

The icy road conditions in the morning hours are still expected.
If you can, stay home.

But if you must travel:

1. Drive slow. Speed is definitely NOT your friend in this mess.

2. Give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going.

3. PAY ATTENTION! You may be driving as safe as possible but not everyone has the same road awareness as you.

4. Make sure your phone is charged and you have adequate supplies in your vehicle. This can include water, blankets, snacks and jumper cables, just in case you get stranded.

5. Don’t follow other vehicles too closely. Give plenty of space between you and your fellow drivers.

Above all, please practice extreme caution.

Oh, and be careful walking on that front porch too. Don’t let that Ring camera catch you “slippin’”…🧊

05/01/2025

Good afternoon everyone. We seen some great icing this morning. As of 1:00 PM, Pennyrile Electric is reporting a little over 1,000 customers are without power. Temperatures are to increase up to 38° by 7:00 PM this evening. By midnight, the cold air will come rushing in and refreezing everything. Let’s go ahead and see what to expect for the next few days.

Monday we will start off with some snowfall. I still believe we can see 1”-3” of snow. Snow chances will diminish by 9:00 AM. The high will be 28° and wind blowing from the northwest at 15-20 MPH. This will give us a windchill of 15°-19°. The overnight low will be 23° with the windchill staying in the mid teens.

Tuesday will be cloudy with a high of 30° and windchill in the mid 20s. The overnight low will drop to 15° and a windchill of 10°.

Wednesday will have mostly sunny skies with a high of 28° and windchill of 20°. At night, the temperature will dip down to 14° and a windchill of 7°.

Thursday will also have mostly sunny skies with high of 30° and a low of 23°.

Now, just a heads up for Friday. I’m currently watching for the possibility of another snow event. Current models are showing a snowfall total of 3”-5”. But as everyone knows, this all can change between now and Friday. But this is just something to watch for.

"Through the chill of December the early winter moans but it's that January wind that rattles old bones."- John Facenda

Hope everyone has a great week. Drive safe and keep warm.

Good afternoon/evening everyone. We still have some cold air, winter weather, and still some uncertainty coming our way. But you know what, it’s winter in Kentucky and the one thing that always changes is the weather. So let’s see what to expect for the weekend.

Friday will have mostly sunny skies with a high of 40° and a low of 20°.

Saturday will be partly cloudy with clouds starting to thicken by sundown. Our high will be 36° and a low of 27°.

Sunday, what will it bring? It’s looking to start with a little snow and ice in the morning. By midday, the temperatures will have risen above freezing and will continue to rise giving us mainly rain. The high temperature will top out at 44°. After 10pm the temperatures will start to drop fast. By around 1:00-3:00 AM Monday morning, it looks like snow will move in with moisture still in the area. We can expect a couple of tenths(.2”) of ice in the morning, then rain, and then a possible of 1-3” of snow before sunrise on Monday morning. The overnight low will drop to 25° with a windchill in the upper teens.

Now with that being said, with this still a few days away, if this system drops south a hundred miles or more, then we can expect more ice. Especially in the northern part of Trigg, Christian, and Todd counties. So be sure to keep an eye on this and listen to your local weather reports with National Weather Service and your local media outlets such a radio or TV.

"January, the first month of the year. A perfect time to start all over again, changing energies and deserting old moods, new beginnings, new attitudes." - Charmaine J. Forde

Hope everyone has a great weekend. If any weather advisories are sent out, I will post them as soon as I can. Stay safe and warm.

31/12/2024

Ok, this is the update I stated that I would do today. I was waiting for the forecast models to update to get the latest information. As of right now, these models are not definite but only showing what is currently possible. Nothing will be definite until maybe Saturday. This is only to inform you so you can take whatever actions you need to prepare.
The first picture is showing the possible total snowfall by noon on Monday January 6th. It is currently showing Christian County with a snowfall total of 9.7” of snow. The second picture shows the possibility of ice accumulation in southern parts of Trigg, Christian and Todd counties.
Now before everyone starts sharing this, be sure to know that these models are NOT definite. This system can shift north and we can get more ice. If it shifts south, we’ll have mostly snow. This system is still 6 days away. This is 6 days to prepare for whatever we may get hit with. I’m not here to scare any of you but just to give you knowledge to prepare. If you have generators, now is the time to check on them to be sure they are operational and have plenty of fuel. With the colder temperatures that will settle into the area for at least a week, don’t look for any fast melting.
I will be back on Thursday for my regular weekend forecast. If there are anymore changes to the incoming winter weather, I will make updates then. Hope you all have a good day.

31/12/2024

Good morning everyone. So I’m going to start by saying that yes, we have the potential of some winter weather coming to our area. Is it going to get cold? Yes it is. How cold will it get? Well, it’s not going to be -20° like a few in a video stated a couple days back. Well, take that back. It will get -20 below in Celsius but not Fahrenheit. That’s right. There are some people that are making things sound like we’re going to have Alaskan weather with extreme cold. It will be cold with highs in the lower to mid 20s and a few nights with lows in the single digits. And if the wind is blowing, it’s going to feel even colder. So be cautious on your sources for your local weather being from the social media platform. I’m not a meteorologist but a weather hobbiest. Others are self proclaimed meteorologist but lack the Degree of Science in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science. To obtain a BS degree in this field, you must have courses in physics, calculus, and chemistry, and often involves advanced computer modeling to analyze weather models. Some of the self proclaimed meteorologist I’ve seen struggle to even operate a computer.
Now I have four meteorologists I follow on social media networks and they are Beau Dodson and Reed Timmer here on Facebook. Ryan Hall on YouTube. And Todd Gross on TikTok.
I will be back in a few hours with a weather update around noon today. And as I have promised everyone before, I will do my best to inform you so you will be prepared for what is to come in the weather. I’m not here to fear monger or do this for a popularity contest. I’m not asking for money and I’m not selling anything.
See y’all back here in a few hours.

Good evening everyone. It has been a busy weekend but hopefully things will slow down soon. There is currently talk of an incoming winter weather. I’m not quite onboard with it but multiple models are showing chances of snow. This is still a week away and thing will change between now and then. But just know the chances are currently there but it will all be based on the temperature when the moisture arrives to our area. As of right now, it’s a waiting game. So, let’s see what to expect in the forecast as we close out this year and welcome in a new.

Monday will bring us partly to mostly cloudy skies during the day. During the overnight, we will have a 50% chance of rain. The high will be 60° and a low of 46°.

Tuesday will be cloudy with a high of 50° and a low of 35°.

Wednesday will bring in some colder temperatures with partly cloudy skies. The high temperature will be 38° and the low of 25°.

Thursday will also be partly cloudy with a high of 40° and a low of 31°.

Now if things change by midweek for the winter weather for next weekend, I will put out an update so everyone will have time to prepare. If you want to prepare now, by all means, do what you think is best.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year.
