The Fields Ranch East and West courses at deservedly attract most of a golfer’s attention, but The Swing—a 10-hole par-3 course co-designed by Gil Hanse and Beau Welling—is equally worthy of your time. Outfitted with more than a dozen towering floodlights, the short course comes alive at night and stays open late—the last tee times are scheduled for 10:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. It’s a wonderful slice of nostalgia for those who grew up learning the game at pitch-and-putt courses that welcomed play after dark.

In the latest edition of Dream Golf Magazine, Sand Valley announces it’s 6th course—the Commons, a 12-hole course designed by Jim Craig with a mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s.

Of the five Alister MacKenzie courses in America the public can play, one stands supreme—Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. In fact, the architect was so pleased with his northern California design, he chose to live there. MacKenzie bought a house on Hollins Drive beside the 6th fairway where he lived with his second wife, Hilda Haddock. It was also where he could fulfill his long-held desire to practice golf in his pajamas.
