Jodie Brackett is a . She has traveled more than 1,000 miles to help support senior living communities in need during the .

“This experience has changed my life tremendously,” Brackett said. “In three short months I’ve seen so much sadness, but I also have experienced so much . At times I have to go outside and just sit and cry because it’s lonely, scary, and stressful — but everytime I feel like I can’t do it anymore I hear this sweet voice from a resident at Cherry Springs Village. She told me, ‘If I can’t give up, you can’t give up!’ These residents need me in these buildings, and just to hear them say, ‘Thank you’ or tell me they love me is priceless. I will forever be grateful to be given this opportunity.“

While many have halted travel plans in the midst of Covid-19, Jodie Brackett has kept her suitcase packed since the start of the pandemic. It isn’t vacations that have sent her nearly 1,000 miles in just a few months, though. Brackett has volunteered to be part of a strike team, heading into senio...

The heroic workers at Cherry Springs Village will tell you they are battling a monster. Their armor is made of paper gowns and rubber gloves, with layers of masks and face shields hiding all but their worried, tired expressions. They have worked long, hard hours. They have seen pain and fear in the eyes of the elderly residents they are charged to care for. They have seen death and felt loss – but continue to suit up, clock in and care for the residents who are beginning to emerge from their fight against COVID-19.

They are heroes - let's recognize them and their bravery for sharing their stories as we kick off .

A major senior living company has penned an "Open Letter to America" in response to states releasing specific numbers related to COVID-19 in the senior living industry.

"The need to be transparent and maintain communication with residents, their families and our greater community has been a priority for us throughout this evolving situation. Often that transparency does involve reporting numbers, but numbers aren’t the whole picture.

While public announcements about how COVID-19 affects the senior living business may at first seem to shine a negative light on our work, we ask that you see these announcements instead as a call for your support.

Now is not a time for negativity, rather, it is time for us as an industry, and as a nation to rally together in solidarity, standing strong for our most vulnerable population, our seniors, and those heroic workers who serve proudly as their caregivers. They have faces, they have stories, and they have families and loved ones."
