FAMILY PETITION FOR NOMINATION
of the Legendary Cuban Trumpet
Master Alfredo "CHOCOLATE" Armenteros for permanent exhibition @ The National Museum of the American Latino a future Smithsonian Institution museum.
Friends , my cousin Alfredo Armenteros Chocolate Jr called me last week with a favor to ask of me. My cousin has been a tireless defender of his father Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros' legacy DONATING personal priceless musical treasures of his father such as one of his legendary trumpets for temporary museum exhibits. My cousin is now seeking a permanent exhibition of his father Chocolate in the future National Museum of the American Latino of the Smithsonian Institution.

My friends that are reading this. Some of YOU either are members of the board of directors of The National Museum of the American Latino at The Smithsonian Institution museum or work with or for one of the board members....

This Family Petition for my Grand-Uncle Chocolate undeniably has merit on its own. Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros was one of the early Latino/Hispanic musical trailblazers in the United States since the 1950s having emigrated to the United States several years after he helped his cousin my grandfather Benny Moré start La Banda Gigante de Benny Moré in Cuba...

If Chocolate's contribution to music ended there it would have been enough...It didn't. Chocolate would go on in his own right to make musical history performing with Maestro Mario "Machito" Grillo, Tito Puente Sr., Tito Rodriguez, La Fania, Celia Cruz , La Sonora Matancera, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gilepsy, Wynton Marsalis and many many more. He appeared in several major motion pictures such as Andy Garcia's "The Lost City". starring Andy Garcia, Bill Murray and Dustin Hoffman as Meyer Lansky. In this movie Chocolate's silhouette appears on the movie poster as one of the letters ( I in City ) of the movie. Chocolate was also in a documentary directed , produced and starring Matt Dillon chronicling the history of Cuban music...One of his last history making albums was the Emilio Estefan produced Gloria Estefan album 90 Miles/90 Milas...This album was also historic because it had the last musical recordings of my Grand Uncle Generoso as well as Cachao together before they passed away.

I can go on endlessly citing my Grand-uncle Chocolate's contributions to music in America...You all know this already. Please help me , help his namesake son that as I revere my grandfather he too idolizes his father and seeks to honor him and his Latino/Hispanic contributions to music in America...

P.S. One dear friend that I have always loved as an uncle is the primary ❤ person this letter I ask gets to him. I will not name him. But some of you know who I am referring too. I do not want to pester or bother anyone. Especially him....

That is why I will not call him. Calling him would be easy. But this honor is one I don't think I need to call in a favor....

My Grand Uncle "Choco" deserves this honor on his own merits...My friend knows this better than anyone...
